The Political Science Department at Simpson College is inviting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The starting date for this position is August 2020.
The candidate will teach introductory American politics and upper-level courses in institutions (U.S. Congress, Presidency, and the Supreme Court) and his or her area of specialization. The ability to teach Civil Liberties or a similar course in the pre-law track is strongly preferred. The candidate will be part of the rotation for a first year seminar or a senior research capstone in the major. The teaching load is six courses per year, including opportunities to teach experiential or international travel courses in May Term. Iowa is at the center of U.S. presidential politics every four years, and our faculty work closely with the non-partisan Culver Public Policy Center and the college’s award-winning debate team.
Simpson is a four-year private college of the liberal arts and sciences affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The main campus is twelve miles from Iowa’s capital city of Des Moines. Simpson has a history of graduating alumni who are leaders in civic and public affairs.
