The Coordinator for Fitness & Competitive Sports reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and is responsible for serving as the Coach for Warrior Rugby, providing management of activities and services of campus recreation. The Coordinator for Fitness & Competitive Sports will design, implement, and coordinate fitness programming to include group exercise, personal training, and special events. Competitive sports programming to include extramurals and club sports, developing schedules for team and individual sports, and developing and maintaining partnerships with on and off campus stakeholders to continue to develop new sports opportunities for A&M-Central Texas students.
-Administers fitness programs to include group exercise, personal training, and special events. Evaluates and supervises undergraduate and graduate student-employees in the Fitness Center & Human Performance Lab. Collaborate with the leadership staff to plan, develop, and achieve goals for fitness and competitive sports in accordance with university and division goals.
-Implement, recruit for, and evaluate fitness and competitive sports initiatives that meet national effective practice and federal and state guidelines. Implement and monitor a comprehensive risk management plan. Activities will include collaborating with the Student Counseling and other parties in the planning, development, organization, and evaluation of workshops on various wellness initiatives and campaigns including, but not limited to, alcohol education and risk reduction, drug abuse prevention, depression awareness, etc.
-Build purposeful partnerships with area two-year or community college partners and university recruiting staff to recruit incoming students for competitive sports programs, to include Warrior Rugby Club. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure the accuracy of information that is disseminated.
-Creates and administers scheduling and other operational requirements for group exercise classes and team and individual sports. Oversees and trains student leaders, coaches, faculty advisors, and other student staff to assist in the administration of extramural and club sports, to include coaching Warrior Rugby Club.
-Coordinates publicity and social media related to competitive sports, fitness, and group exercise programming. Collaborates with the Assistant Director for Campus Recreation, Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and other university offices and personnel overseeing public relations. Implements and interprets procedures and policies impacting fitness and competitive sports programs. Develops and maintains procedures for documenting and cataloging all departmental business processes, as appropriate.
-Complete other duties as assigned, to include serving as a representative on department, division, and university committees and task forces, and at events. Some night and weekend responsibilities are required.
Education and Experience: - Bachelorâ™s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. -One year of experience in recreational sports or related field.
Education â“ Bachelorâ™s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports Management, or other closely related field
Experience â“ USA Rugby Level 200 Coaching certification upon hire or willingness to receive within 6 months of hire date
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: -Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses: First Aid & CPR certification.
Other Requirements: Ability to exert heavy force and lift heavy objects.
Salary: $34,686 - 36,000 per year
