The Web Designer / Front-End Developer creates websites and applications that are visually stunning, user-centric and outstanding among Carleton’s peers. The ideal candidate is a creative solution-maker and skilled collaborator with an inquisitive mind and eye for design. From a technical standpoint, the Web Designer / Front-End Developer is responsible for supporting and maintaining the college’s web design standards and style guide, providing accessible markup for the designs they create, and implementing any interactions needed to complete their designs. On the business end, the ideal candidate is savvy enough to understand the underlying needs of a request, translate that into messaging and design, and manage the project to completion. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) exempt, benefits-eligible staff position. Carleton College is an AA/EEO employer. The successful candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree and has at least three years of experience in user experience design, visual design, information architecture, web and mobile development processes and systems, Agile development and prototyping. Applicants should be proficient in web best practices, responsive design and accessibility, and various web platforms, apps and technologies. Preferred qualifications include experience with WordPress, prototyping tools, atomic design systems, templating frameworks, CSS pre- or post-processors, and task-runners.
