Creative Copywriting Position in Advertising Dept. of Advertising and Public Relations College of Communication and Information Sciences The University of Alabama The Department of Advertising and Public Relations at The University of Alabama invites applications for a contract instructor (3-year renewable, non-tenure) in creative advertising (copywriting) for the 2020-2021 academic year, starting August 2020. We seek an individual with expertise in copywriting for conceptually strong and strategically sound advertising campaigns. The successful candidate will bring the proper professional creative experience and preference will be given to candidates with additional experience in effectively engaging students in the classroom at a college and/or portfolio school level. Teaching responsibilities will primarily support our Creative Advertising Specialization & Portfolio Program, including coursework in Concepting, Copywriting, Portfolio Development, and Advertising Campaigns. Opportunities for new course development, and additional summer and interim teaching are also available. Our Creative Advertising Specialization & Portfolio Program students have established an impressive track record for winning top awards in regional, national and international advertising competitions including AAF's American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) and the One Club's Young Ones Student Awards. Alumni have gone on to do great work that has been recognized with Lions, Pencils and Clio Awards for some of the most prestigious agencies in the country. A bachelor's degree in advertising/public relations or a related field and extensive/distinguished professional experience in creating concept-driven copywriter work for the advertising industry.
A personal portfolio of creative advertising work that shows off your copywriting abilities. Preferred Qualifications (considered after all minimum qualifications are met):
A graduate degree in advertising/public relations or a related field
Record of teaching effectiveness, with experience in teaching relevant undergraduate courses.
A portfolio of student work that shows off your ability to teach advertising copywriting.
Evidence of or potential for contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion via teaching, research or service.
