Graphic Designer (Graphic Designer I)/Undergraduate Studies - Dean's Office California State University, San Bernardino
Employment Status: Full-time, 'non-exempt,' temporary position (with the possibility of converting to probationary).
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Position Overview: Position is responsible for the artistic brand and design of Undergraduate Studies (UGS) print and multimedia materials. Incumbent will use both design concepts to organize ideas visually to convey the desired message to the target audience. Incumbent will design and create a wide range of materials including, but not limited to printed materials, video, websites, training materials and public relations projects.
As a creative thinker, the selected candidate will be able to add real value to the design process and be highly productive. This role requires a 'can do attitude' and flexible approach as you will be requested to work on a diverse range of projects for multiple departments of UGS.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES: Under general supervision, the Graphic Designer will be responsible for the following to include, but not limited to the following:
Illustrates concept by designing layout of art and copy including arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts.
Obtains approval of concept by submitting layout for approval.
Conceptualizes, designs and produces finished print, online and multimedia projects consistent with the university's graphic identity standards.
Completes projects by coordinating with UGS departments.
Demonstrates awareness of the University's brand and visual identity standards.
Works with the Office of Strategic Communication as needed for compliance.
Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications; and participating in professional societies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Develops multiple design concepts for consideration as needed.
Retouches photos as needed for specific mediums.
Produces illustrations as needed.
Designs and produces HTML emails.
Ensures assigned design requests are well developed and completed by deadlines.
Maintains websites with updated information, photos, video and other content, using the University's content management system.
Consults with originators to ensure communication objectives are achieved and tailored to the intended audiences.
Prepares printing specifications to obtain bids. Confers with printers as needed.
Manages a team of student assistants.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from college or university with a Bachelor's degree in graphic design, fine arts or related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. Additional qualifying graphic design experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience working in higher education is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design and production principles and communication theory including a basic understanding of marketing and promotion concepts.
Advanced graphic design skills and artistic ability in order to translate communication needs into an artistic design.
Solid working knowledge of applicable graphic design software packages and hardware systems and peripheral (i.e Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign).
Thorough knowledge of current campus documents and university-wide publication needs.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of design, pre-press, printing and other vendor services to prepare specifications for printing and other services.
Knowledge of offset printing and file preparation for print production.
Working knowledge of ADA accessibility requirements is preferred.
Working knowledge of copyright laws applicable to design work and creative properties.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
