Director of Defense Research Partnerships, Engineering Research Accelerator-2014153
The Engineering Research Accelerator, which is a part of the College of Engineering (CIT), provides an integrated, coordinated, and college-wide set of services for research incubation, acceleration, and support. These functions include research administration, corporate partnership, funding opportunities, business support, and research incubation and acceleration activities. The Accelerator enables continuous assessment of current activities and clusters, as well as the identification and cultivating of high-potential, cross-cutting, emerging research directions to maintain the College's competitive advantage.
Our College of Engineering's Research Accelerator is searching for a Director of Defense Research Partnerships. In this role, you will provide Federal defense related research strategy development, pursuit, acquisition, support and coordination functions under the direction of the Chief Partnership Officer (CPO) for CIT. This role will also coordinate closely with the University's central Government Relations Team.
Working with the Dean, CPO, Associate Dean for Research (ADR) and other colleagues, you will be responsible for the development of sponsored research, and mutually beneficial partnerships with governmental entities, corporations (and other institutional partners) in support of relevant defense research focus areas as they relate to the overall goals and strategic priorities of CIT.
If applicable may also serve as interim Executive Director of research centers or institutes that as they are being launched or supported within the Accelerator.
Core responsibilities include:
Assisting in the development and application of tools to facilitate faculty engagement with program managers
Crafting and executing strategies for improving faculty engagement with specific defense related agencies - - including agency "101" and capacity building session
Developing and implementing strategies for tracking emerging trends in agency program funding and initiative development and then working with our faculty to align with these opportunities
Developing strategies to improve faculty engagement with DoD program managers. Including developing strategic plans with the college and university administration that could lead to innovative partnership opportunities and successful pursuits.
Tracking and finding opportunities for CIT faculty to engage in advisory board and other DoD-related agency leadership activities.
Working as a core member of the government relations team to align policy level engagement with agency strategies to improve the ability of our faculty to set research agendas.
Working with the Dean, CPO, ADR and targeted faculty to support initiatives to attract center level funding.
Working with the government relations team on the planning and execution of events and briefings that support a focused advocacy strategy.

Ability to actively plan, prioritize and lead the development of support from government agencies, and targeted defense related corporations.
Ability to balance ongoing defense relationships and serving as a primary liaison with external organizations, faculty, and other key partners
Ability to achieve annual research funding and activity goals
Ability to work on multiple technical disciplines and pursuing opportunities across all of the different fields of engineering
Additional knowledge and experience in other federal agencies (DoE, NIH, NASA, NSF, etc.) would be a plus
