Working closely with the leadership of Dodge College of Film and Media Arts (DCFMA) and in collaboration with the university's office of Strategic Marketing & Communications, the Communications and External Relations Manager oversees internal and external communications for the college. Develops and manages the overall marketing strategy, communications, and branding of DCFMA to effectively and strategically achieve the goals of the department in support of, and in line with, overarching institutional goals. Oversees all communication and outreach projects providing direction, approvals, and executive support to the Communications and External Relations team of staff. Guides efforts with a focus on consistent branding, engaging communications, and promoting stories that enhance the reputation of the college and convey the distinctiveness of its programs. Drafts and implements policies and administers procedures for all methods of communications originating from DCFMA. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field, and/or equivalent experience.
Minimum of five years' progressive experience providing team leadership, utilizing sound judgement to expedite decision-making.
Ability to translate broad vision statements into actionable team goals and strategies.
Demonstrated experience creating and implementing successful strategic marketing and communications plans.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance in the areas of marketing and communications best practices.
Strong communicator with the ability to unite and influence, advise and empower a team to think creatively and strive for excellence.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other area leads/managers.
Ability to adjust messaging content and delivery to match varying audiences and stakeholders
Current knowledge of the effective utilization of social media and best practices to guide team members.
Experience working with content management systems including websites, blogs and digital signage to recommend enhancements and improvements to functionality and efficiency of current systems and programs.
Knowledge of, and ability to learn, industry terms, nomenclature, major players to accurately identify and facilitate partnerships, sponsorships, and career-related opportunities.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse constituents within and outside of Chapman University.
Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and make decisions appropriate for the position level.
Skills to administer assigned budget and demonstrate fiscal responsibility.

Experience in higher education, preferably in a communications or external relations role.
Ability to create/layout and execute design projects utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with media relations practices including press release drafting and media pitching.
