Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Operations and the Director of the Institute on Politics and Global Affairs (IOPGA), will serve as Communications and Programmatic point-of-contact for the IOPGA. Under the direction of supervisors, s/he is responsible for Institute-related communications, including direct contact with the media and ensures that all press requests are handled as soon as possible. This position's purpose is three-fold:
To ensure regularly occurring press coverage of the Director as a renowned expert on congressional dynamics and as a respected thought leader on current events, as well as assist in maintaining and promoting press coverage of the institute's programsto relevant outlets. To assist with development and implementation of strategic and innovative programming that distinguishes the IOPGA as a premier platform on political discourse and global affairs. To assist implementation of the communications plan for the IOPGA, developed with supervisors and Ithaca campus collaborators.
This position with perform their duties of communication, publications, and publicity in close consultation and collaboration with the Director of Communication and Marketing in the Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs on the Ithaca campus.
This position is in Long Island, NY, and will on occasion travel to Ithaca for functions and meetings.
Bachelor's Degree; with 2 to 4 years of experience or equivalent. Experience with the Press and Press outreach required.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams. Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Proficient understanding of graphic design, as this role will develop online and print promotional materials. Attention to detail is a must for the programmatic portion of the role.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Windows and Adobe, as well as with graphic design skills (InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint) and aesthetic sensibility; familiarity with brand guidelines.
Master's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in communication, marketing, public relations, journalism or related field
Personal relationships with booker and reporters on the local and national level
Experience in higher education
