Under the direction of the Director of Digital Strategy, the Assistant Director of Web Development has responsibility for managing, updating and analyzing performance of university web pages, including the main CGU website, subdomain websites, MyCGU intranet, and all those pages defined as necessary to support the functioning of CGU’s website. To accomplish this, this individual works in close cooperation with the Director of Digital Strategy, the Web Administrator, and content providers from across the university.
The regular hours for this position are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours and days may vary due to the needs of the University or the department.
Assists with university-wide web activities including posting new material to the web and editing existing material on the web, utilizing the WordPress CMS and/or HTML scripting.
Assists with diagnosing and fixing content problems, including broken links, typographical errors, and formatting inconsistencies.
Assists with gathering web analytics and performance data to assist with SEO and user interface improvements. Provides support for the publication of video, slideshow, and photographic content on the web.
Provides WordPress training and customer service support for content publishers.
Works under the guidance of the Director of Digital Strategy and the Web Administrator to evaluate, test, and implement new WordPress plugins as needed, as well as monitors the status of existing WordPress plugins.
Maintains the official, branded university web templates for use by all schools, departments, and areas.
Demonstrates knowledge of 508/ADA compliant best practices.
In collaboration with OIT, coordinates website administration, such as managing access and assisting in the maintenance of security processes and procedures to ensure site security, as well as assisting with platform and other upgrades.
Maintains a current level of technical and design skills for the web as necessary.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Advanced knowledge of website development skills and tools
Advanced knowledge of hand-writing front-end code (HTML, CSS)
Strong understanding of web design functions, web ADA regulations, and SEO best practices
WordPress as a CMS
Technical aspects of WordPress website function and maintenance
Current best-practice standards for email, social media, and mobile-first design/development.
Write front-end web code using a simple code editing platform such as such as NotePad++, Sublime Text, etc.
Edit WordPress theme/template files using PHP
QA web code and content, according to ADA/SEO best practices
Provide WordPress and other web training to content creators across the university
Troubleshoot technical web problems
Proactively identify issues and areas of improvement on the web
Keep current with trends in web development
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Multitask and work independently
Bachelor’s degree, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in website development, website management, or other related field. Experience with WordPress CMS required. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and meet CGU’s authorized driver’s requirements.
