The Media Department in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts at Duquesne University is seeking collegial candidates for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Public Relations, to begin in August 2020.
The primary responsibility of the position will be teaching a range of courses pertaining to Media and Public Relations, including specialized graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in the candidate’s field of interest, upper-division courses in PR strategies, PR campaigns, media research methods, social media marketing, and lower-division courses in Public Relations and PR writing. Candidates with backgrounds in big data analytics, non-profit PR and special events planning are of particular interest. All applicants must be able and willing to teach and work with MFA students. In addition to teaching, high-quality scholarly activity in the areas of the candidate’s active research agenda will be required. Mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, and student organizations will also be expected.
The Media Department is among the largest in the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts and prepares students to become thoughtful, effective and civic-minded media professionals across a wide range of media disciplines. The department offers majors in Multiplatform Journalism, Strategic Public Relations and Advertising, Sports Information and Media, and Digital Media, with seven tenured, tenure-track or equivalent faculty serving 174 students. The department also offers an MFA degree in Media Arts and Technology. The department is academically rigorous and intellectually diverse. Its faculty meld professional experience in their respective media fields, theoretical knowledge and scholarship, and a commitment to teaching that enables students to cultivate a wide range of skills and knowledge. Our alumni include a recent Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and occupy prominent positions at NPR, Edelman Worldwide, UPMC, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and a host of other major media enterprises.

An earned Ph.D. degree in communication, media communication, advertising/public relations, strategic communication or another related academic field is preferred. Completion of the degree is required for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor. Candidates should also have professional experience in the field of public relations, advertising or marketing.
