Simpson College seeks a highly-motivated and passionate individual to fill the position of Web Development Specialist. As a member of the Office of Marketing and Public Relations (OMPR), this position serves as the primary manager and project coordinator of the design, editorial, marketing and visual content development of the College’s official web presence, simpson.edu.
The position will also provide vision and strategic thinking for Simpson’s digital presence while keeping web content current and effective, yet efficient. Advise and manage the web/new media project development cycles for campus clients such as but not limited to, Admissions and Advancement.
Develop and implement strategic initiatives necessary to advance Simpson in digital media
Guide website marketing strategy based on site usage, best practice, research and trends in collaboration with the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Marketing and Communications
Serve as Simpson’s primary contact with web marketing vendors/consultants
Create, edit, manage and maintain website and/or applications that support department initiatives.
Develop web standards and guidelines for style, content and code through:
research of current web trends,
usability testing of clients,
surveys of clients and content managers,
administrative feedback and benchmarks,
college computer use policies and
relevant laws (e.g. 508 compliance and copyright).
Monitor and analyze web statistics; identify trends in the nature, frequency, and types of services requested, and use this data to continually improve content and quality of services.
Implement appropriate security measures to safeguard data and restrict access appropriately.
Audit website and applications to ensure that standards are met, security measures are in place and determine and address the impact of new requirements and programming changes required. Ensure websites perform and display content across mobile, tablet and desktop devices.
Design, develop and maintain web applications (e.g. data modeling, coding, integration, testing, debugging, maintenance, documentation code libraries and reporting.)
Responsible for installations of upgrades to existing systems and related application software; ensures completion of routine maintenance with the appropriate IT staff/website vendor.
Collaborate with Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Marketing and Communications to design and build user interfaces for new digital and wayfinding displays
Provide end-user support and create supporting documentation.

Associate’s degree in web development/design, digital media, marketing communications or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
5+ years experience in related job position
Strong understanding of industry best practices and content management systems (Drupal). Experience with multiple website platforms preferred.
Extremely fluent with HTML5/XHTML and CSS.
Some experience working with PHP, MySQL Java Script, jQuery, YAML, Twig, OmniUpdate, and Wordpress
Skill in functional and visual design of both static and data-driven web pages.
Excellent creative, communication and analytical skills
