Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and serving as a member of the senior leadership team, the Chief IT Operations Officer will function as the CIO's deputy, as assigned. To this end, the IT COO is responsible for advancing the CIO's information technology priorities for the university. The IT COO will also work closely with the current CUIMC IT Chief Technology Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, and Director of Application Services.
The IT COO will be responsible for managing and executing the CIO's priorities, as assigned, in the following four areas: 1) Strategy & Governance; 2) IT Leadership & Operational Excellence; 3) IT Organizational Transformation; 4) Communications & Public Affairs.
Leveraging direct and indirect matrixed staff, the incumbent will ensure the prioritization of activities associated with strategic goal setting, committee and team governance, and procedural/policy oversight-specifically for the following units: Project Management Office (PMO); Certified Information Technology Groups (CITGs), ColumbiaDoctors Information Services (CDIS), EpicTogether/CUIMC IT Service Desk & the Information Security Office. The IT COO will directly manage the staff in the PMO, as well as other third-party consultants and vendors, as retained, to meet the CIO's strategic priorities for the school.
Support the CIO and executive committee in achieving target goals and priorities by serving as a strategic liaison and implementation leader; ensure a unified understanding of, and progress toward organizational goals 25%
Strategize with the CIO, and other senior leaders and committee members, on institutional planning, policy development, and problem resolution; ensure implementation plans are effectively communicated and managed 20%
Serve as a thought partner and implementation leader for rollout of the new Epic EHR system 10%
Provide leadership and direction to the PMO by overseeing all functions from project intake to successful delivery, vendor management and change management 10%
Effectively lead cross-functional technology teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and customer service to optimize use of technology to support research and clinical care 5%
Accompany CIO to meetings and events, with both internal and external stakeholders; represent the CIO in his absence, when appropriate/necessary 5%
Coordinate strategic priorities for the CIO's presence at internally and externally focused events and meetings, and ensure that the CIO is well-prepared for such meetings 5%
Provide operational leadership in the Office of the CIO to accomplish the organization's goals and objectives effectively 5%
Serve as first point of contact between the CIO and internal/external stakeholders to preserve the CIO's time and help with prioritization of activities 5%
Draft communications on behalf of the CIO, as needed 5%

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent in education and experience. Minimum 10 years related experience. Advanced degree desirable.
Graduate degree in Business Administration, Healthcare/Public Administration, Information Technology or related field
Leadership experience overseeing cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed environment
Higher education experience, working in collaboration with senior leadership including C-suite
Strong preference for proven project management and client service approach to solving business problems and addressing new opportunities
Consultative and client service approach to solving business problems and addressing new opportunities
