Reporting to the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of human resources, talent management, change management, strategic communications, and space planning functions for Columbia University Information Technology (CUIT), an operation with 360+ FTEs providing IT services and mission-critical technology for 40,000+ faculty, staff, alumni, and students. As a member of the senior leadership team, the AVP is responsible for delivering best-in-class executive coaching, organizational design, talent acquisition, employee engagement, succession planning, and strategic communications to cultivate a unified, service-oriented culture aligned with CUIT's mission and core values. The incumbent must have a strong customer service orientation and an excellent understanding of and successful track record with administrative/operational services. They must also demonstrate effective leadership and management skills, excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, strong project management skills, and an ability to turn strategy into action.
Operates as a strategic advisor to the CUIT Senior Leadership team to help shape and drive the people agenda aligned to the organizational priorities.
Partners with senior leadership on organizational transformation, including organizational structure design, talent management, employee engagement, role definition and change management.
Leads the development and execution of a holistic talent management program designed to attract, retain and develop top talent for CUIT.
Monitors employee engagement and works closely with leadership, managers and employees to implement employee programs and events that connect employees to CUIT's core values and mission and positively impact morale and department culture.
Develops and implements a plan of continuous performance evaluation of programs and employee effectiveness within CUIT based on benchmarking and HR metrics/analytics.
Oversees all investigatory and employee complaints; works closely with Talent Services team to gather and provide information for appropriate resolution; partners with CUHR, Office of General Counsel and EOAA as necessary
Drives and oversees all people practices including but not limited to talent acquisition, talent development, organizational development, succession planning, learning and development, and performance management.
Provides vision and leadership in promoting a culture that values and supports diversity and inclusion. Serves as the executive champion for CUIT's "Women in Technology" employee resource group and develop strategies and programs to advance its mission across the University IT community.
Leads CUIT's Marketing and Communications leveraging multiple channels and platforms (Intranet, CU website, collaborative apps, video, emails, etc.) to support the major initiatives and projects for CUIT stakeholders.
Partners with the CUIT Senior Leadership Team to provide proactive leadership and effective communication, delivery and administration, and measurement of HR programs and policies
Oversees development and deployment of internal communications to keep employees informed of CUIT's strategy, performance, organizational changes, employee events, employee benefits, and HR policies.
Provides oversight for CUIT's space planning and office services operations, evaluating current and future space and facilities' needs, managing building operations, including space allocation, reception area, ongoing maintenance issues, and planning and coordination of appropriate space change initiatives and projects.
Serves as a member of the CUIT Senior Leadership Team.
Strong employee and labor relations experience is required.
Proven success with organizational redesign, change management, talent management, learning and development experience is required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Experience using data to inform decision-making required.
Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork are required.
Ability to be recognized as a trusted colleague by leadership and staff.
Strong analytic/problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement is required.
Must be flexible, organized and capable of performing multiple tasks.

Must be able to understand and demonstrate the role of facilitator with all campus constituencies as well as being a facilitator of change.
Master's degree preferred.
Prior experience working within information technology.
Experience in Higher Education a plus.
