DUTIES: Under the direction of the Director of Recreation, Parks & Tourism, the Civic Center Manager is responsible for budget development & execution, personnel, obtaining, retaining & developing events, execution of event contracts & technical riders; and the safety and cleanliness of the physical plant as it relates to the operation and sustainability of the Civic Center. Oversight responsibility also includes the division’s food service operation; sponsorship sales; general maintenance; building improvements; maintenance of all operating systems & equipment; procurement of goods and services; inventory control; customer service delivery, and event support including set up & breakdown. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Recruit and lead a talented team, maintaining a working environment conducive to optimum production. 2. Develop and execute the annual operating budget and capital restoration budget. This includes asset control, inventory & receipt collection, internal auditing and reporting for operating, food service, facility escrow, capital improvement projects and assets. 3. Ensure County procurement guidelines are followed including the approval of all expenditures. 4. Develop & execute a strategic plan including systematic reviews to protect the Civic Center in a very competitive marketplace. 5. Oversee a marketing plan to effectively sell the YCC and related events to event organizers, potential event consumers and the public. This includes interfacing with Department marketing staff to develop collateral, web pages, social media, press releases, presentations to promote Civic Center events, signature special events, facilities, services and the procurement of media advertising as required. 6. Execute contracts and technical riders with event organizers. 7. Direct and hold sales staff accountable to achieve goals. Sales includes cultural entertainment, trade shows, sporting events, receptions, meetings, business advertising and event sponsorships. 8. Work with Box Office management to ensure the operation fulfills technical event riders, renders excellent customer service and efficient operation to maximize profit. 9. Oversee an in-house food service division which provides concession and catering services to ensure maximum profitability and excellent customer service. 10. Execute practices to reduce tax subsidy. 11. Develop and execute a community public relations program to promote understanding of the value, cost & benefits of the YCC. 12. Provide quality service to ensure guest satisfaction for patrons of Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism facilities. 13. Perform related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS: 1. High School Degree Required. Bachelor's Degree in Business, Venue Management or closely related field is preferred. 2. A minimum of five years progressive experience which may include: business management, facility management, personnel management, finance management and/or event management are preferred. 3. Must have valid Driver’s License. 4. Must pass background and drug testing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: County employees are expected to perform or possess the following: 1. Basic knowledge of public auditorium/arena management 2. Experience and knowledge with event artist offers, contracts, and promoter rental deals 3. Sales and marketing knowledge 4. Human resources or experience in management 5. Finance and experience managing budgets 6. Knowledge of risk management and public safety 7. Effective written and oral communication skills
Position requires flexible scheduling to work some nights, weekends and holidays based on event schedule in the building.
