About the Position
This full-time, permanent position reports to the Director of Development for Annual Giving and Alumni Memberships. This position is crucial to meeting the mission of Western Washington University as one of four Annual Giving Team members responsible for raising $3.8 million in annual gifts from more than 8,000 donors and 5,000 alumni memberships. The Associate Director is responsible for the identification, qualification, engagement and solicitation of WWU Donors between $1,000-$24,999. They will be expected to utilize multiple channels (in-person/phone/email/online, events, regional travel, etc.) to connect with donors at this tier and build the broader WWU donor pipeline. Additionally, this position will work closely with central Advancement programs (President’s Society, Donor Relations, Events, WWU Alumni Association) as well as academic unit development leaders.
Typical Position duties/responsibilities include:
Manage a portfolio of ~150 Leadership Annual Giving Prospects
Identification and Qualification of Leadership Annual Gift Prospects ($1,000 - $24,999) through in-person and phone visits.
Solicitation of Leadership Annual Gifts through in-person visits, phone calls and personalized gift proposals.
Cultivation and Stewardship of Leadership Annual Gift Prospects using the University Advancement database and tools such as Linked-In and Facebook, prepare and present personalized impact reports and other engagement and stewardship activities.
Qualification of Major Gift Prospects-Using research and strategic questions, determine if and when prospects have the capacity and interest in making a major gift ($25,000+) and hand the relationship off to the appropriate Development Officer.
Three years related experience (i.e. fundraising, alumni relations or another related field such as sales, public relations, event management, etc.)
Demonstrated commitment and ability to cultivate work environments that are equitable and inclusive for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to travel at least once a week both within Washington State and regionally throughout the United States, as well as attend evening and weekend events on occasion
Proficient using MS Office Suite
Excellent interpersonal skills that include professional communication, relationship building, and the ability to clearly and concisely present information
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment
Demonstrated ability organizing, managing and prioritizing multiple projects and programs simultaneously and paying close attention to detail
Experience working with board members and volunteers
Demonstrated ability to analyze statistics and prepare reports
Understanding of donor development cycle, annual and major gift and campaign fundraising
Experience working in the higher education environment
$54,760 - $63,890 commensurate experience, including an excellent benefits package.
