The Stock Clerk IV interfaces heavily with the Physical Sciences Division's (PSD) faculty, staff, and students to provide support and services as needed from the Dock/Shipping area. Maintains and oversees all duties on the dock: Receives, coordinates, tracks, and distributes all incoming parcels and packages into the division and the University of Chicago Hospital areas. Â Handles recharge accounts, purchase orders, invoices, data entry, and other clerical office duties as assigned; Moves heavy merchandise, packages, and dewars up to 800 lbs. and handles hazardous chemicals. Takes responsibility and professional care for unusual and expensive equipment, and high security areas within and outside of the Division.
Responsible for stocking and billing for a small hardware, labs, and office supplies in the stock area for Researchers
Advise customers with stock location, recommend parts for particular applications
Process accounting and bills via computer
Place order and check-in merchandise
Must be able to manage interpersonal relationships
Able to interact/communicate with clarity, tact and courtesy with patrons, patients, staff, faculty, students and others, required
Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; identify priorities; recognize and resolve or refer problems to the appropriateÂ personnel or unit, required
Work effectively with supervision and as a part of a team, required
Able to use or learn a range of position-related software applications, required
Public relations, clerical skills and organizational skills are required
Â Ability to independently lift, carry, and/or move heavy packages/equipment of up to 150 pounds, required
Â Ability to move gas dewars (up to 900 pounds) using a hand cart required
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED is required
A valid Illinois driver's license, along with the ability to drive a standard box truck, required
A minimum of five years of driving experience, required
Some previous shipping and receiving experience required (experience with UPS Track Pad, preferred)
Experience/knowledge of gas industry chemical standards and hardware installation procedures, preferred Previous experience with safe-handling or receiving of chemicals and gases, preferred
Working knowledge of standard business software packages (email, Access, Excel, etc., preferably on a PC) required
