This position is responsible for oversight and direction for all ambulatory pharmacy services to promote optimal medication management and cost savings system wide. Identifies and promotes needed changes for formulary management, pharmacy medication management process, financial stewardship, and provider/employee communication to improve quality metrics such as medication adherence and quality ratings.
Coordinates and monitors all functions of the Ambulatory Pharmacy, including pharmacy utilization management, policies and procedures for the administration of outpatient drug, benefits, prior authorizations, medication access, refills.
Creates, leads, and markets programs to increase the breadth of pharmacy ambulatory services.
Organizes P&T Committee activities, physician communication/education, retail/community pharmacy, clinical intervention programs, drug usage evaluation programs, and pharmacy outcomes research to improve pharmacy outcomes.
Coordinates the development and implementation of educational support for physicians, patients, allied health personnel, contracted pharmacy partners and pharmacy services staff.
Reviews Drug Utilization Reports (DUR) and provides physicians with profile reports on prescription practices.
Works with departments in the development, implementation, evaluation, and marketing of medication related health and wellness programs that reduce health risk, enhance health status, reduce medical expense, and contribute to employee satisfaction.
Analyzes pharmacy claims, purchasing data, hospital system data to identify areas of utilization aberrations, opportunities for cost-efficiencies, prior authorization protocols, and identify where the organization should explore new and revised contracting and promotional activities.
Other related duties as required.
Required – PharmD degree from an Accredited College of Pharmacy
Required – PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or equivalent experience
Preferred – PGY2 Residency
Required – 5 years hospital pharmacy experience
Required – 2 years of experience in a management level position
Required – License to practice Pharmacy in the state of practice
Preferred – Certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties
