Required Minimum Quals:
Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience.
Experience with communications in Agriculture. Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Communications or closely related field. Experience using video, social media, and related tools for strategic promotion. Experience in researching, editing, and writing science-based content for print, web, and video. Experience using computer applications including MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite and databases. Experience with web-based content management systems for website development.
The Department of Agronomy and the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences seeks applications for a Communication Specialist II. The Communication Specialist will support Agronomy and the IPM programming to tell compelling easy-to-digest stories about agriculture, horticulture, insects, weeds, plant diseases, natural resources, etc. using a variety of mediums (print, video, social media, etc.). These efforts will promote the Agronomy Dept. and the IPM Program in Iowa, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
The Communications Specialist II will work closely with ISU faculty, staff, and other communications specialists to develop and disseminate stories and other content to targeted audiences. The successful candidate will edit and post information to websites; write news releases; plan, edit, write, and distribute print and electronic publications; and professionally convey information to targeted audiences through print, audio, and video formats.
The successful candidate for the position will have the ability to work as part of a creative communications team, be organized and detailed-oriented, and work in a fast-paced environment adjusting workflow to meet deadlines and budgets.
The successful candidate must demonstrate their knowledge of AP and Chicago Style Manual writing style, and possess excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. The candidate must be comfortable speaking in front of an audience or a camera. This candidate must be computer literate and have strong word processing skills, be familiar with desktop publishing, social media, video editing, and web-based content management software tools.
