The University of Iowa Center for Advancement (UICA) is seeking an assistant or associate director of alumni engagement, regional programs. Working in a collaborative alumni engagement team, the assistant/associate director of alumni engagement will create meaningful outreach initiatives to build relationships between the University of Iowa and its alumni and friends across the state, country, and around the globe. The role is designed to encourage lifelong affinity for the University of Iowa through thoughtful programming, honoring each stage of the alumni life-cycle.
Cultivate alumni and friend relationships through personal visits, events, and group meetings. Engage alumni in the life of the university, making connections with current students, faculty, and administrators as well as with other alumni.
Promote active engagement by alumni and friends, individually or in defined groups, to increase participation through well-defined strategies including, but not limited to, volunteer recruitment, marketing initiatives, virtual programs, events, educational programs, outreach, mentoring programs, and advocacy efforts.
Promote volunteer opportunities for alumni through clubs, affinity groups, colleges/units, speaking opportunities, career networks, or similar programs.
Research, develop, and execute events to drive participation and engage assigned alumni groups. Maximize event attendance through innovative programming and communications. Manage event logistics including venue and vendor selections, invitation segments, tracking, program development, material preparation, communications, budget, timelines, event evaluation, and on site staffing and troubleshooting.
Collaborate as an active partner with the staff of academic and non-collegiate units, admissions, career services, athletics, central strategic communications, corporate and foundation relations, and other units to develop and enhance alumni programming, communications, and engagement. Work collaboratively to connect assigned alumni or groups to collegiate/unit programs as appropriate.
Identify alumni who would like to begin or increase their engagement with Iowa, conducting in-person meetings and phone calls to gauge areas of interest and identify appropriate pathways, including volunteerism and philanthropy.
Provide direct and indirect support for centralized alumni engagement programs. Participate in assigned university-centered alumni events and initiatives (e.g. DAA Awards, Fan Engagement, Homecoming, etc.).
Model best practices of an integrated advancement organization. Promote opportunities for philanthropic support of the university when appropriate.
One year of experience in alumni engagement, development, higher education or related field required for assistant level, and at least three years of experience for associate level. Willingness to travel to alumni meetings and events within the United States, with one 3-5 day overnight trip to assigned area per month. Driver's license required.
