We are seeking an Associate Director of Catering & Event Sales to join our rapidly growing team.
Our Hospitality team is committed to providing exceptional meals and extraordinary customer service in all of our diverse locations. As our Associate Director, you will be managing the growth of catering events and conferencing across our various campuses and business locations. Your strategic, long-term management will keep our team responsive to our evolving customers!
Develop and implement strategic marketing plans and sales plans and forecasts to achieve determined objectives for products and services. Plan and oversee advertising and promotion activities including online, website, social media, electronic media, print, trade shows, conferences, and direct mail. Oversee and evaluate market research and adjust marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
Develop and manage sales/marketing operating budgets. Analyze and control expenditures of division to conform to budgetary requirements.
Direct sales forecasting activities and set performance goals accordingly. Ensure effective control of marketing results, and take corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated budgets.
Directly or indirectly manage program and administrative staff, usually through subordinate managers and supervisors. Recruit, screen, hire, and train staff as necessary. Evaluate employee performances and provide guidance and feedback. Counsel, discipline, and/or terminate employees as required. Recommend departmental goals and objectives, including workforce planning and compensation recommendations. Reassess or redefine priorities as appropriate in order to achieve performance objectives. Recommend, approve, and monitor professional training and development opportunities for staff.
Develop and recommend product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share. Establish and maintain a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events, as applicable.
Survey, review, and analyze competition, market trends, customer needs, and comments in order to be proactive and adapt with business intelligence.
Achieve satisfactory profit/loss ratio and market share in relation to preset standards and industry and economic trends. Review and analyze sales performance against programs, quotes, and plans to determine effectiveness.
Prepare and deliver reports and/or presentations, on a regular basis, concerning all activity and financial sales to senior management. Prepare periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion for internal and external use. Guide preparation of marketing activity reports and present to key stakeholders, as required.
Monitor competitor products, sales, and marketing activities.
Serve as the liaison for and manage relationships with external vendors and consultants, as required.
Maintain awareness and knowledge of current changes within legal, regulatory, and technology environments that may affect operations. Ensure senior management and staff are informed of any changes and updates in a timely manner. Establish and maintain appropriate network of professional contacts. Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations and publications. Attend meetings, seminars, and conferences and maintain continuity of any required or desirable certifications, if applicable.
Develop and implement security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals, and key controls. Coordinate security activities with Department of Public Safety. Promote and maintain standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintain knowledge of Universityâs crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensure dissemination of security related information to staff.
Manage and direct the on and off property catering sales managers to achieve revenue goals by proactively targeting current and new high value accounts in the market and implementing effective catering sales deployment strategies to grow market share.
Is responsible for achieving revenue goals, guest and associate satisfaction, and the financial performance of the department. Provide day-to-day leadership to a team of on-property catering sales associates.
Develop menus that drive sales. Assist with selling, implementation, and follow-through of catering promotions.
Execute and support Customer Service Standards and hotelâs Brand Standards. Execute and support the operational aspects of business booked (e.g. generating proposal, writing contract, customer correspondence).
Maintain successful performance by increasing revenues, controlling expenses, and providing a return on investment.
Coordinate and deploy catering sales resources on-property to establish pull-through and sustainment of catering sales strategies and selling solutions. Develop a close working relationship with operations to execute strategies.
Interact effectively with guests/clients, sales and kitchen, vendors, competitors, local community, catering associations, and other USC departments in order to monitor guest satisfaction. Execute exemplary customer service to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty by assisting the customer and monitoring their satisfaction before and during their program/event.
Serve the customer by understanding their needs and recommending the appropriate features and services that best meet their needs and exceed their expectations, while building a relationship and loyalty. Gain understanding of the Universityâs primary target customer and service expectations; serve the customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns, and to offer better business solution both prior to and during the program/event.

Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Experience: 5 years
Directly related professional and supervisory experience in diverse Hospitality and/or Food Services environment.
Demonstrated success in strategic and long-range Hospitality Management and/or Food Services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to train, coach, counsel, and hire employees. Experience within union environment.
Budgeting and purchasing experience.
