Job Specific Summary: Part-time faculty position teaching an online communication course for the Master of Communication Management online program.
Job Announcement: The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism seeks qualified adjunct faculty to supplement the instruction offered by our full time faculty. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. plus teaching and/or industry experience in: Communication, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Social Psychology, Research Methods, or Public Relations. Teaching experience in strategic and organizational communication, marketing communication, and other fields of applied communication is highly desired. Â Â
We are seeking a section instructor for our online Master of Communication Management program.Â Students in our online courses are grouped into sections of 20 students on average.Â Each section is assigned an Online Section Instructor who moderates online discussions, answers course-related questions, and provides weekly online office hours. Online Section Instructors grade homework and exams, and make recommendations for final course grades. The Faculty Course Director for each course will coordinate, advise and oversee Online Section Instructors assigned to his/her course.
Minimum Education: A Ph.D. is required for consideration. Candidate's PhD may be in the following fields: Communication, Social Psychology, Statistics, Business, Research Methods, Organizational Behavior, or related field.
Minimum Experience: Two years of teaching experience at the university level. At least 5 years of practical experience working in the field is preferred, but not required if the candidate has the requisite teaching and research knowledge. Â Must be an active instructor who is highly responsive and can meet deadlines. Highly proficient at using Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel. Reliable and consistent access to a computer and the Internet.
Preferred Education: A Ph.D. in Communication, Social Psychology, Statistics, Business, Research Methods, Organizational Behavior, or related field.
Preferred Experience: Experience teaching online courses at the university level. Experience in using online education platforms such as Blackboard and/or Moodle preferred. Experience with webconferencing such as Google Hangouts, GoToMeeting, Adobe Connect, or Fuze Meeting is preferred. At least 5 years of practical experience working in the field is preferred, but not required if the candidate has the requisite teaching and research knowledge. Â Proven success in managing students in class, and excellent conflict management and decision making skills. Demonstrated ability to coach and help students achieve their academic goals, and exceptional oral and written communication skills, especially when using email.
