Department: DEVELOPMENT: ALUMNI RELATIONS - 061022 Department Description: The Cal Aggie Alumni Association's mission is to advance the interest and promote the welfare of the University and its alumni. Top priorities for the Association are alumni network and chapter development, student programs, scholarship and student recruitment, alumni career services development, advocacy, and volunteer coordination. The Office of Alumni Relations is dedicated to the fulfillment of the CAAA mission and ensuring that the CAAA is a major link between the University and its constituents and a key resource to which the administration turns for advice and counsel.

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Development & Alumni Relations (DEVAR), the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Alumni and Affiliate Relations/Executive Director, Cal Aggie Alumni Association (AVC/ED) provides overall leadership for the strategic planning and management of the comprehensive alumni and external relations programs that serve and promote the interests of UC Davis students, alumni, parents, retirees, emeriti, and the community. This includes building a foundation of support among alumni for the University. The AVC/ED serves as chief executive officer of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association (CAAA), a separately incorporated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The Office of Alumni and Affiliate Relations represents the external constituencies of UC Davis including alumni, parents, retirees, emeriti and student alumni association members. The department coordinates the efforts of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association Board of Directors and serves in an advisory capacity for the following groups; Aggie Parent and Family Association, UC Davis Retiree Association, UC Davis Emeriti Association and the Student Alumni Association. The office has three units: Retiree Center, Alumni & Parent Programs, and Revenue Generation.
The AVC/ED leads, directs, and manages the three units within Alumni and Affiliate Relations, comprised of 17 FTE with assets of $10 million and an operating budget of $2.1 million. The AVC/ED serves as an advisor on reserve funds of approximately $7 million invested through the UC Regents and the UC Davis Foundation. The AVC/ED oversees the management and operations of the Walter A. Buehler Alumni Center and its annual operating budget of $180,000 and monitors $200,000 in annual revenue from more than 1,300 facility bookings. The AVC/ED may serve as the principal spokesperson with the public at the most senior levels of state and federal government, highest level donors, and other prominent constituencies.
Work Environment: Must provide own transporation to off-site events and meetings. Overnight travel required.

Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated success as a visionary and effective leader and manager with expertise in institutional program management, strategic planning, program implementation, and fiscal planning and accountability.
A bachelor's degree in related area; or equivalent experience/training.
Demonstrated experience managing a large alumni relations organization.
Experience managing a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Proven significant and progressively demonstrated experience involving staff supervision and volunteer management.
Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills and a highly professional presence with the ability to represent he university and its alumni and constituents effectively, both internally and externally.
Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, and motivate staff and volunteers; a proven track record of recruiting, retaining, and developing staff, creatively organizing and managing the team to maximize the involvement of alumni in the life and work of the University.
Proven ability to work with various constituents including the academic community and prominent volunteers to define, articulate and advance the University and its alumni and affiliate association's reputation and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications: Collaborative management style aligned with the ability to delegate and be decisive.
Politically savvy and demonstrated ability to work creatively, effectively, and collaboratively in a complex, dynamic organization.
Experience in public relations, marketing and/or fundraising.
Entrepreneurial and resourceful.
Advanced degree in related area, or equivalent experience/training.
