The Assistant Director of Communications and Donor Relations will report to the Senior Executive Director of Communications and Donor Relations in the Office of Development for the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S). The incumbent will project manage a wide array of assignments, helping to coordinate marketing and communications efforts for the VP&S Office of Development.
The role includes project managing the development and production of print and digital communication vehicles; supporting select events and productions; and managing special projects. These projects include Velocity, Columbia's Ride to End Cancer; supporting the work of our Board of Advisors; and working on aspects of direct marketing, annual giving and peer to peer fundraising.
This role requires a strong background in many forms of production and project management. The incumbent will play an instrumental role in supporting the efforts of the Senior Executive Director, executing components of the development communications plan, as well as handling key administrative tasks including scheduling, calendar and budget management. This role requires strong attention to detail, the desire to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to prioritize requests and work on multiple projects at the same time. This position requires work beyond regular hours, including evenings and weekends, as projects and events require.
Communications Management - Provide project management for development communications efforts and special projects to enhance program visibility among internal and external constituencies. Serve as key liaison between department, staff and vendors for the design and production of print and online publications/materials, proposals, signage, clinical area content and collateral. Track and manage assets and usage (uploading and transferring copy, art work, images). Serve as a key liaison between writers, development officers and vendors for special projects i.e. annual report, brochure development, proposal development, etc. - 30%
Provide project management for internal communications and promotions functions associated with Velocity, Columbia's Ride to End Cancer, including on-campus promotional efforts. - 20%
Provide support and project management for the activities associated with the Board of Advisors. - 20%
Management of Development Website - review site, make updates to ensure giving paths, assess analytics, identify and upload content to drive priorities and reflect current news. - 10%
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, and provide general support to the Development Office including support for direct marketing, annual giving and peer to peer fundraising. - 10%
Support the Senior Executive Director of Communications and Donor Relations by coordinating staff, schedules, and meetings; organizing and maintaining project records, submitting and tracking expenses; managing timesheets; preparing meeting agendas, presentations, and materials, and other administrative functions. - 10%
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
Strong marketing skills
Experience with client relations/customer service
Experience in proofreading and editing
Experience in press relations and/or media production
Experience with print and digital design and/or production
Familiarity with Advance (or similar fundraising database)
Familiarity with DRUPAL
