HKEX is looking for a highly experienced, motivated and proven senior communications professional to join its influential and well-regarded Communications Team. The increasing scale and reach of HKEX has meant that the Communications Team now has an additional vacancy for a highly skilled senior practitioner to join the team.
The successful candidate must have experience working with senior executives in a public company and they must they be able to demonstrate a track record of excellent judgement, leadership and good counsel. We are looking for an individual who is not only comfortable responding to media enquiries, but can help design and implement media campaigns, pitch stories and creatively position ideas and though-leadership with the local, and broader, press. We are looking for a dynamic team-player with exceptional media relations skills.
The successful candidate will be extremely well-networked, will have gravitas and will probably have broader experience in other areas of communications such as strategic communications, brand building, speech writing, event design and/or international public relations. Critically we are looking for a team player who demonstrates excellent communication skills themselves and is professional, thorough, has an eye for detail and wants to build a career and one of Hong Kong's most exciting businesses.
The Group's Communications Team is responsible for protecting and building the Group's external brand and helping frame and shape its internal culture. We are focused on accurately communicating HKEX's strategy and news, maintaining the group's high standards of transparency and managing HKEX's local and international reputation. The team works closely with the HKEX Board, executive, senior management and business to ensure that HKEX's brand and reputation is accurately and positively reflected amongst is broad local, mainland and international stakeholder groups. The Group's Communications team oversees Financial and Executive Communications, Media Relations, Digital Communications, Brand, CSR, Internal Communications, Speech Writing, Translations, Film production and Events.
The successful candidate will report to the Group's Chief Communications Officer, and will work very closely with the communications leadership team in delivering a successful cohesive communications programme. Job Responsibilities:
The exact role and responsibilities will be determined by the individual and their experiences, but this is a senior hire into a large team with a broad remit: the exact scope of the role is flexible. The role will however include the following responsibilities:
Promote and protect HKEX's reputation in the media
Professionally manage HKEX communications with print/broadcast/social and digital media, including messaging (preparing articles, news releases, lines-to-take and other content initiatives) and manage the flow of news of the company to media
Ensure key HKEX Executives and senior management have balanced and appropriate exposure in the local and international media
Act as HKEX 'eyes and ears' in the local market, advising the executive and the business of sentiment, interest, opportunities and issues
Design and 'sell' public relations opportunities and work with the business to pitch our leadership and expertise to a broad local and international audience
Act as a spokesperson on behalf of the company and address media enquiries
Use professional, commercial and balanced judgement in engaging with a broader stakeholder base as appropriate
Be a valued member of the team, working with Communications team members and with other key HKEX stakeholders to deliver consistency and accuracy in all HKEX communications
Work on C-suite and Group speeches, presentations and events
Contribute to the strategic thinking of the Communications Team, and the broader group
Candidate Requirements :
University educated with strong academic achievements. A degree in journalism or communications is not required, but the successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience in working in either financial markets, capital markets, fintech or market regulation. Broader experience and understanding of technology, economics, global current affairs, sustainability or data would be advantageous
Have a minimum of 15 years' of experience in corporate communications, at least a part of which must have been with a listed company, ideally with proven managerial and international experience. May also have had experience with an international agency or company
Have strong leadership skills and capabilities in managing diverse relationships; have a proven and wide network
Native Cantonese speaker required; with excellent oral and written English, and preferably also Putonghua
Be a motivated self-starter who must be able to take initiative using sound judgement, drawing on their experiences for the benefit of the business
Be a strong team player and be able to demonstrate the HKEX values of Integrity, Excellence, Diversity, Engagement and Collaboration
Have gravitas, C-suite experience, be ambitious and engaging, and want to work in a fun busy and dynamic team!
