The Institute of Politics (IOP) at the Harvard Kennedy School has a proud history as the first institution of its kind with a mission to inspire students, particularly undergraduates, to become leaders in politics and public service. Established in 1966 as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy, the IOP seeks to bring students together with academics, politicians, activists, and policymakers through nonpartisan programming to inspire them toward politics and public service.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Digital Content Specialist plays a key role in supporting the integrated communication strategy that reflects the mission and priorities of the IOP.
The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for drafting and publishing original multimedia content that supports the IOP's mission and broader communication strategy. In addition to written content, this includes visual graphics, video products, and podcasts. The Digital Content Strategist will update and maintain the editorial calendar to reflect IOP programming (Fellows, Forums, conferences, etc.), students, and additional priorities of the IOP. In addition, the Digital Content Specialist works with the Director of Communications to oversee the IOP's email program and weekly newsletter to engage key IOP stakeholders; students, alumni, administrators, faculty, etc.
The Digital Content Specialist is expected to work collaboratively with IOP team members, students, and our Harvard University and Kennedy School colleagues. In this capacity, the Digital Content Specialist is expected to assist with internal Harvard University communication channels, including Harvard Kennedy School intranet and calendar, the Harvard Gazette, and various university-based listservs.
Finally, the Digital Content Specialist will work with the Director of Communications to support additional communication assets such as talking points, principal briefing docs, press releases and additional assets for coordinated press roll-outs, etc.
This is a fully benefits-eligible term appointment ending 2 years from date of hire with possibility of renewal.

Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 3 years of related communications experience. Experience must include working in higher education, political, public service organizations.
3-5 years of communications experience working in higher education, political or public service organizations is strongly preferred.
Traditional marketing, communications, public affairs, student affairs, journalism or a related field also applicable.
Experience constructing and executing a cohesive social media strategy and day-to-day management of content calendar on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube.
Proficiency with video editing software, such as iMovie.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including editing and familiarity with AP Style guidelines.
Strong attention to detail and consistency.
Familiarity with stakeholder and influencer engagement and strategy.
Understanding of brand guidelines and the implementation of voice and tone in content development.
Experience using Canva, iMovie, Photoshop or other editing software programs.
Experience with project management and execution.
