The Stanford School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences (SE3) develops the knowledge and talent to understand the workings of the planet and to help solve resource and environmental challenges.
The school's external relations team is seeking an associate director of donor relations. This is a vital role on a small team, ideally suited to a strong contributor who is a self-starter and who will thrive on managing every aspect of the school's donor relations program. This position will be a great fit for a self-starter who will enjoy learning new things every day, interacting with Stanford Earth faculty and students, and crafting stories about exciting and important research. The successful candidate will demonstrate both strong writing and editing skills and strong project management and administrative skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
Manage the school's donor relations portfolio: propose timing and activities, and create content as part of an overall strategy to thank and engage donors and illustrate the impact of their support
Create and maintain an annual calendar of stewardship activity and meet set deadlines throughout the year; track and document individual donor relations strategies
Research and write compelling and engaging reports describing work supported by donors across the school
Achieve a deep understanding of Stanford systems, including donor management database and financial reporting system in order to execute funds management and other donor relations tasks
Manage gift acknowledgement process

To be successful in this position, you will need:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong client service orientation and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal skills, and professionalism to interact with a wide range of people at different levels of an organization.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to edit high-level correspondence.
Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple priorities, with competing deadlines.
Ability to conduct research and interpret information available in a database.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Tact, discretion, and experience handling confidential information.
Proficient in MS Office Suite and database applications.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Demonstrated sound judgment in situations requiring independent decision-making and in handling confidential and sensitive material.
In addition, our preferred requirements include:
Experience in a fundraising organization, ideally in donor relations or development communications roles
Experience in higher education, particularly complex research institutions
