Summary of Duties: The Corporate and Foundation Relations Prospect Research Strategist will provide frontline Prospect Research and Management support of Washington State University Corporate Relations' and Foundation Relations' (OCR/OFR) Offices. This role utilizes various university databases to assist with the development of comprehensive university strategies for corporate and foundation donors.
The Office of Corporate Relations (OCR) and Office of Foundation Relations (OFR) align their activities with the vision, goals and priorities of WSU, providing high-level support and counsel, managing prospects, working with central development on partner strategy, and serving as a liaison with appropriate campus departments (colleges, institutes, etc.). The OCR and Prospect Research seek to provide one-stop' contact for high-level corporate and foundation partnerships. OCR and Prospect Research personnel provide counsel to university leadership, deans/directors and college/program-based development officers and faculty in the cultivation and solicitation of gift/grant funds from corporations and foundations to support WSU programs and research. OCR and Prospect Research work with the Vice President of Advancement and the Vice President of Research to develop and coordinate comprehensive campaigns for the WSU system and to designate high priorities for research.
This position will report to the Director of Prospect Research and Management while working closely with both the Director of Corporate Relations and Foundation Relations to help research, identify and strategize in regards to corporation, foundation and other private sector funding organizations. The strategist will provide market research and analysis on organizations, their marketing strategies and initiatives, and identify potential contacts that can leverage WSU relationships. This position will use a variety of resources and data mining for the creation of targeted cultivation and fundraising strategies. He/she will work closely with the OCR/OPR teams to manage prospect tiering, provide in-depth profiles, briefings and support opportunities. The strategist will monitor the integrity of corporate and foundation information throughout respective databases and mine data and information to provide statistical models, forecasts, metrics analysis, and strategic planning. He/she will determine usable, actionable information for the formation and execution of engagement strategies and measures of success. The strategist will analyze changes in funding support, model and track funding trends from top tier corporate and foundation prospects, and identify top RFP and competitive opportunities aligned with top priorities and strengths of the university to help determine and develop a competitive edge.
Research and Prospect Management 60% Function as primary Prospect Research and Management support for the OCR/OFR offices: (1) Representing OCR/OFR when promoting funding opportunities and providing research profiles and analysis; (2) promoting the expertise of the OCR/OFR offices and raising their visibility to constituents; (3) Maintaining strong communication with OCR/OFR personnel to operate as a coordinated unit.
Perform research to understand strategic plans and initiatives of targeted corporations and foundations to provide comprehensive high-level strategic analysis and recommendations as required for OCR/OFR staff, WSU and WSU Foundation leadership
Maintain advanced knowledge and understanding of the foundation and corporate giving/granting community to create comprehensive research profiles on corporations and foundations. Profiles will contain information including: gift and grant totals received by WSU, activity summaries; strategy as well as the organization's funding priorities and patterns; proposal deadlines; board and staff contacts; detailed biographical profiles; and potential connections and resources within the WSU community.
Manage prospect lists of current and potential corporate and foundation donors.
Independently utilize technology of online & print resources to gather, analyze, and interpret information. Make educated and ethical judgment calls on the validity, importance, and quality of information found. Employ online & print resources to identify and provide information regarding individuals and corporations / foundations that have an WSU connection, indication of wealth, and philanthropic interest.
Maintain knowledge of the university's fundraising priorities and align efforts to priorities.
Serve as Liaison to Other Offices on Campus 20% Build and maintain connections with the Office of Research, the Innovation and Research Engagement Office, the Office of Commercialization, the Academic Success and Career Center, and other university offices who regularly engage with private organizations, in order to incorporate and share comprehensive analysis of cross-university engagement in preparation for high-level solicitation strategies.
Act as a liaison to the Office of Research to help manage intake of monthly reports that relate to Corporate and Foundation grant activity from the grants and contracts database.
Network 15% Participate in Prospect Research and Management as well as OCR/OFR staff meetings and strategy sessions to provide research and maintain familiarity with prospects and provide input on strategies.
Research networking opportunities for OCR/OFR personnel and maintain a calendar of possible events that may occur on campus or hosted by external organizations.
As needed, provide information to support OCR/OFR efforts to coordinate Philanthropic & Grant Agreements and Stewardship & Endowment Reports.

Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelors degree and four (4) years of professional experience in prospect research for fund raising, which has included experience in collection, analysis and dissemination of research information or comparable experience and interpersonal relations with university employees, volunteers and members of the community. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
