The Communication Team at the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) seeks an outstanding Communication Specialist. The team offers strategic, innovative communication that is customer-centric and offers measurable results.
MICHR is seeking an experienced and motivated Communication Specialist to develop plans and messages to reach our internal U-M research audiences, along with some outreach to external partners. This position will promote MICHR’s services, resources, events, and successes, with responsibilities across the creative spectrum. These responsibilities include conveying a variety of strategic, tactical, and motivational messages using a mix of face-to-face, digital, and print methods.

Develops and coordinates innovative communication and marketing strategies for a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives
Provides expert communication consultation support to staff members as necessary to achieve development, education, outreach, and marketing goals
Responsible for writing and designing print and online publications (brochures, e-news, etc.)
Possesses the skill set for developing, curating, and managing content for websites
Creates effective multimedia content (photos and video) as needed. Provides communications support to the MICHR faculty and staff for proposals, grants, and presentations if assigned
Assumes responsibility for maintaining communication channels, including social media
Coordinates and collaborates with other communicators across campus for effective dissemination
Consistently evaluates effectiveness and feedback of communications, and assesses and makes revisions for improvements
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in communication, journalism, or marketing)
Minimum of 5 years of work experience in communication and/or marketing
Experience in web content creation/management
Demonstrated effectiveness with social media engagement
Experience with e-newsletter creation and management, preferably using MailChimp
Writing/editing, content management, interpersonal, and customer service strengths
Strong project management, photography, video, presentation, and graphic design skills
Design thinking knowledge and experience
