Reporting to the Executive Producer, and working with a multimedia storytelling team within Harvard Public Affairs & Communications, the Multimedia Project Manager will focus on the day-to-day management, trafficking and distribution of, multimedia content across channels and platforms. The Multimedia Project Manager will also work across teams and functions within HPAC to coordinate and integrate activities, technology, and information related to specific project goals and in service of broader departmental priorities.
The ideal candidate is an organized and process-driven self-starter who is fluent in and passionate about multimedia storytelling (video, audio, and emerging formats) and focused on user experience to help us create intuitive, effective, and engaging online experiences for huge global audiences. This person should have creative experience in conceiving and developing video and audio assets, and interpreting performance metrics to enhance future work. This is a job for someone who understands how digital media is created, how people interact with it through a variety of channels, and how social technologies accelerate its spread.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions*): The Multimedia Project Manager will:
Support the activities of the multimedia storytelling team in planning, creating and distributing its content, through attentive project management.
Recommend, integrate and document tools and processes to assist with or improve production workflow and efficiency.
Actively communicate with stakeholders about the status and deadlines of projects; schedule shoots; coordinate permits; anticipate opportunities and issues.
Handle the finishing phase of production – uploads, captioning, cover images, titles, descriptions, trafficking– through delivery.
Oversee the uploading of multimedia assets to official university channels including harvard.edu and the Harvard Gazette, as well as third-party sites such as YouTube and SoundCloud.
Collaborate with the content strategy team to glean insights from analytics or emerging trends, with a view to enhancing storytelling efforts and reach.
Write copy for social-specific multimedia content.
Work with creative director and graphic designer to support design work.
Manage a variety of third-party multimedia platforms and pages used by the university for marketing purposes; curate and update multimedia features on various web properties and channels.
Lead digital asset management efforts, including cataloging and tagging an external b-roll library, internal video servers, published works, stock music, etc.
Occasionally perform basic video and audio editing; repackage existing content in new formats; create short-form, social-specific content.
Occasionally participate on shoots, as a production assistant.
Manage a once-monthly Digital Roundup e-newsletter sent to 1,000+ communications and digital marketing staff members across Harvard.
Work with outside vendors, as needed.
Other duties as assigned, to support the department's work.

3-5 years of digital media and/or project management experience
Fluency in web technology and online content publishing
Broad knowledge of social media, mobile, and digital communications best practices
Experience with digital media publishing platforms like YouTube, SoundCloud, iTunesU, among others
Intermediate knowledge of video production equipment, and editing software (Adobe Creative Suite)
Familiarity with the video production process
A passion for creative storytelling and film, and a drive to try new things
Ability to work with stakeholders to identify and define user needs and project objectives
Great interpersonal skills and ability to be a connector of people and teams
Sound editorial judgment to independently publish and feature multimedia content to public-facing channels
Familiarity with embedding content on websites using Content Management Systems and basic HTML
Experience in higher education or nonprofit communications desirable
Diplomacy, and an understanding of how to manage sensitive information
Some understanding of video accessibility issues
A sense of humor!
B.A. or higher, in communications or related field
