1) The Associate Director of Leadership Giving at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business understands the principles of fundraising and the mission of the office.
2) This position will focus on leadership level ($2,500 - $100,000) Annual Fund prospects but will also be expected to develop major gift leads and make occasional major gift solicitations of $100,000 or more.
3) This position will also help develop and manage cultivation events and programs for leadership level Annual Fund donors and volunteers. Periodic travel.
4) Plan and implement strategies for a coordinated program of fundraising activities for Booth Annual Fund leadership gift prospects.
5) Identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors who have the capacity to make financial commitments of $2,500 to $100,000 or more.
6) Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects who are Annual Fund donors.
7) Qualify new prospects.
8) Determine creative cultivation and solicitation strategies.
9) Arrange for prospects to meet with appropriate University staff and faculty.
10) Plan and execute cultivation events in conjunction with event planning staff.
11) Maintain strong communication links with various University colleagues to ensure a coordinated approach to prospects and donors.
12) Assist in preparation and management of expenses. Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with University policy and provide timely reporting.
13) Draft compelling letters and proposals.
14) Provide contact reports.
15) Deliver timely and effective follow-up to prospects and donors.
16) Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a strong stewardship strategy for a portfolio of donors.
17) Assist with events and attend evening and weekend functions as necessary.
18) Plan and execute a target total of 120-150 visits per year and a commensurate number of Annual Fund solicitations.
19) Plan and solicit a number of $100,000+ gifts as determined in concert with manager during annual goal setting.
20) Partner with manager to plan, develop, and execute a high-level strategy for increasing the total number of leadership level Annual Fund donors and a complementary strategy to recognize and engage these donors with the school.
21) Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance. Perform other duties as assigned.
1) Demonstrated success in soliciting and closing individual leadership gifts of $2,500 or more.
2) Strong verbal and writing skills, high attention to detail and follow-up, and excellent organizational skills.
3) Strong commitment to customer service.
4) Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact.
5) Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to Alumni Affairs and Advancement, including Griffin (the University's Donor Relationship Management System), a Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
6) Strong leadership qualities, including the ability both to delegate and to execute, thereby leading by word and by example required; ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting.
7) An exceptional work ethic and track record of personal initiative required; outstanding interpersonal and communications skills characterized by the ability to listen, to speak, and to write well.
8) Flexibility and adaptability to new programs in an emerging and changing environment.
9) Willingness and ability to travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for University business.
10) Understanding of the University of Chicago, its history, organization and modus operandi.
11) Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends.
1) A minimum of three years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, sales, public relations or similar work experience.
2) Demonstrated experience in managing gift prospects.
