The Career Services Office at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, is looking for a career services and alumni relations professional, with relationship building, program development and higher education experience, to join our office as an Assistant Director for Alumni Relations. Our new team member should have a genuine interest in college students & alumni, career services and public affairs overall.
The Assistant Director will:
Represent the Andrew Young School and Career Services & Alumni Relations as primary point of contact for alumni.
Develop strong, long-term relationships with alumni both within Georgia and throughout the US. Encourage community connection and foster school affiliation among AYS alumni.
Develop and coordinate alumni-focused regional and national programs year-round.
Increase the number of alumni visiting campus to serve as panelists, speakers, workshop facilitators for informational interviews with students. Maintain information regarding potential speakers, panelists, workshop facilitators, etc. Support the development of student programming that includes alumni.
Serve as resource to faculty interested in engaging alumni in the classroom and the work of the school. Identify alumni interested in supporting student development through experiential opportunities such as research and capstone projects, etc.
Work closely with Assistant Director for Employer Relations to foster alumni and employer relationships and to encourage the development of internship and fulltime employment opportunities for students and alumni; respond to alumni hiring needs overall.
Work closely with Andrew Young School Development Officer. Share potential development contacts and collaborate on mutually beneficial alumni development activities and programming. Collaborate and serve as primary contact with university partners including GSU Alumni Affairs and alumni contacts within the other schools.
Develop and facilitate an active Alumni Board and support Dean’s Office with management of the Young Alumni Board.
Track and maintain current alumni data (i.e., contact information, employment status, desired level of engagement, etc.). Develop and conduct alumni surveys for individual AYS departmental and school tracking purposes. Serve as point of contact for inquires and requests for data from departments.
Meet one-on-one with alums seeking career planning and job search support. Assist in developing career programs for upper-class students through their transition to alumni status, thereby supporting and building school affiliation and connection.
Develop content for alumni e-newsletter. Identify, interview and write profiles on alumni.
Maintain Alumni section of AYS Career Services & Alumni Relations web page. Create social media content spotlighting alumni successes, impact in the community and career paths; promote job and internship opportunities and AYS events.
Share public interest stories, successes and career profiles with AYS Public Relations staff.
Supervise Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant. Provide back-up supervision of Career Service’s other GAA’s and student assistants.
Directly support cross-functional staff team within Career Services & Alumni Relations.
Represent the Director in meetings as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three yrs. of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in student services, human resources, higher education or a related field.
3-5 year years of direct alumni relations experience. Proven record in developing on-going alumni relationships.
3-5 years of experience in developing large and small programs and events from conception to successful outcome.
Experience providing career counseling (or coaching) to adults (college students and/or alumni).
Knowledge of Excel, Access, MailChimp, Sales Force (or another CRM). Comfort in working with new technology.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects on an on-going basis. Flexible and capable of working in a dynamic, service focused environment. Strong attention to detail.
Knowledge of career tracks within state, local and federal government, nonprofit and private sectors as they relate to AYS disciplines of study.
