Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Campus Communications for Rutgers New Brunswick Campus. This position works with the university's Marketing and Communications (R-Comm) department to ensure the Chancellor's vision and goals are efficiently and effectively managed throughout the New Brunswick schools, units, and departments.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Serves as the primary creator of a comprehensive communications plan for the leader of the New Brunswick campus, and works to execute and monitor progress and success of the plan over time.
Forms and maintains close relationships with key university constituents to effectively distribute communication content in the form of social media, email, speeches, constituency communications, op-eds, newsletters, etc.
Accountable for campus wide collaboration with school and unit communicators, and at times will coordinate with other Rutgers campus chancellors to ensure alignment of communications strategy and message.
Advises the campus of established and emerging best practices, particularly among other B1G 10 or public AAU campuses.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, or related field; Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Also requires a minimum of 5 years experience in communications or public relations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be willing to use personal vehicle for inter campus travel.
Proven excellent interpersonal skills in oral, written, and other communication skills.
Must be a strategic thinker, proven problem solver, and work well under pressure.
Expert knowledge of PowerPoint or other presentation software.
Must present portfolio of sample communication pieces, including presentations, speeches written on behalf of a second-party and various types of correspondence.
Ability to take, accept and incorporate feedback.
Experience at an institution of higher education is preferred, but not required.
Must be diplomatic and search for win/win solutions among large groups of constituents.
Use of Microsoft Office Applications and presentation software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The individual is expected to be on call and may need to work nights and weekends on occasion.
