James Madison’s Montpelier seeks a Senior Director of Advancement to build a sustained principal and major gift program at one of the country’s most innovative and forward-thinking historic institution.
Montpelier is not just the home of one of America's Founding Fathers. It’s also a Center for the Constitution, an active conservation program, and the facilitator of powerful conversations dedicated to “whole truth history.” Its innovative exhibits, developed in partnership with descendants of slaves at Montpelier, have won multiple national awards.
As it embarks on its third decade, the Montpelier Foundation’s Board of Directors is leading a set of transformational conversations that will drive the vision of the organization for the foreseeable future, completing its evolution from a historic home into a high-impact cultural institution with a significant program in the U.S. Constitution.
This effort will require increased fundraising and donor partnerships that will be led by a new Senior Director of Advancement. The Senior Director will report to the Executive Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer, will serve as a key partner on the senior leadership team, and will drive and execute major and principal gift strategy for the entire organization.
The ideal candidate will have the preparation and confidence to serve as a third partner to the CEO and EVP. S/he will be a trustworthy, accomplished, competitive, and energized fundraiser who wakes up every morning seeking to cultivate and close major and principal gifts. The ideal candidate will combine these skills with experience in organizations with a historical or government-related mission and an interest in the strategic vision of James Madison’s Montpelier.
