CHS Inc has an exciting opportunity for a Washington Representative to join our talented Government Affairs team at our Washington, DC office near Capitol Hill. CHS is a global agriculture and energy cooperative owned by farmers, ranchers and independent cooperatives across the United States. This position reports to the Vice President, Government Affairs and will help develop and execute legislative and regulatory strategies to advance the interest of CHS and our owners. This position will inform policy makers in Congress and the Executive Branch about our policies and positions. It will also proactively keep key CHS business leaders informed regarding the potential impact of policy changes on CHS businesses and owners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a proven ability to build strong working relationships, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and changing environment is essential. . You will:
Serve as CHS subject matter expert and build positive relationships with the administration, Members of Congress, Congressional staff and agency officials.
Inform internal decision-makers about trends, policies and initiatives with potential impacts on CHS.
Assist the Vice President, Government Affairs and others with other company-focused efforts beyond those involving federal government affairs.
Influence public policy and advocate for proposals that advance CHS objectives.
Provide for current trends and evaluate pending legislation and regulations to anticipate opportunities and challenges and determine the best interest of CHS and its owners.
Provide input to the CHSPAC Advisory Committee and represent CHSPAC at campaign fundraising events for federal candidates.
Prepare written and oral responses to federal government proposals and invitations including the Federal Register, Congressional testimony, and other public comment periods.
Coordinate interactions with Members of Congress and the administration at CHS facilities across the country.
Comply with all applicable federal lobbying disclosure laws and requirements.
Maintain strong relationships with relevant non-governmental organizations, trade associations and coalitions to inform and influence public policy.
Create briefing materials, position statements, newsletters, social media postings and other communications to inform external stakeholders about CHS objectives and concerns.
Coordinate and execute trips to Washington, D.C. for the CHS Board of Directors, senior leadership and New Leaders program.
Participate in CHS Board of Directors’ Government Relations Committee meetings.
Foster and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

Basic Qualifications: (required)
5 plus years’ experience with corporate and/or government stakeholder engagement and energy policy.
Previous experience with;
Legislative and regulatory relations.
Providing strategic counsel to business units and company leaders – engagement, message development, planning and execution.
Public policy development in Washington D.C., including refined and renewable fuels.
Preferred Qualifications: (desired)
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science or Government Studies, preferred.
Previous experience in the Agriculture, Energy or Cooperative areas - preferred
