Reports to: Manager of Engineering
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
Within the limits of established policies, budgets, legal requirements, and delegated authority, assumes responsibility for the following.
Developing system sectionalizing studies and coordinating system protective devices.
Operating and maintaining the engineering analysis software.
Obtaining and formulating support data for the engineering work plans as directed by the Planning Engineer.
Operating and maintaining the SCADA system and making changes to data base as needed.
Giving technical assistance in the installation of remote terminal units for the SCADA system.
Working closely with the staking department to establish good and uniform engineering construction practices; including but not limited to transformer sizing, conductor sizing, voltage problems, wiring requirements, lighting layouts, subdivision layouts, etc.
Supervising the installation of power quality equipment and analyzing the data collected to solve quality issues.
Providing wiring diagrams to personnel for all metering applications and troubleshooting wiring problems.
Supervising the installation, operation, and maintenance of the transportation system and providing needed information to department heads.
Working with the Planning Engineer and OPC Staff to develop a yearly load forecast.
Updating the system operating guide.
Analyzing the distribution system and determining the need and placement of capacitors and regulators.
Performing rate studies and analysis as directed by Planning Engineer.
Rendering on-call service.
Performing other duties as directed.
Department Employees – Consults, advises, and cooperates relative to departmental plans in the performance of his duties for the Cooperative. Help maintain pleasant working conditions.
Manager of Operations – Cooperates with and requests assistance or advice as needed.
Operations Superintendent – Cooperates with and requests assistance or advice as needed.
District Engineering Superintendent – Coordinates with to assure system-wide consistency.
District Operations Superintendent – Coordinates with to assure system-wide consistency
Safety, Security, and Job Training Coordinator – Coordinates to assure safety for employees and training for advancement.
All Employees – Cooperates with all other employees, exchanges ideas and information that will benefit the organization and insure the continued success of the Cooperative.
Consumers – Provides prompt and courteous service, utilizes every opportunity to explain the Cooperative’s viewpoints, objectives, policies, and services. Remains friendly, courteous, and helpful at all times.
Other Persons – Receives information and/or takes appropriate action to provide information desired.
Community – Participates actively in community and civic programs and projects which help promote the cooperative; serves when invited, on boards and committees in such a manner as to bring respect and effective public relations to the Cooperative.
Community/Project Development – Maintains good relations with all those involved in community and project development.
General Public – Maintain good public relations in all contacts.
By virtue of education, experience, knowledge, ability, skill, or personal attributes, applicants for this position should meet the following specifications:
Must adequately read and write to be able to perform the responsibilities of this position.
College education with Bachelor degree is required. Electrical Engineering degree is preferred; other disciplines with commensurate experience will be considered.
Must be able to complete and pass the ITS course, and maintain ITS certification.
No experience needed if graduated with a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering.
Three years’ engineering experience is required for commensurate experience for graduates in other Engineering disciplines.
Some basic knowledge of objectives, management techniques, and engineering practices associated with the operation of a Rural Electric Cooperative is desired.
Abilities & Skills:
Must be physically able to perform responsibilities listed in job description for this position and have a desire to learn.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
Must be able to type and use a calculator and computer efficiently.
Must have legible handwriting, and satisfactory communicative ability, both verbal and written.
Must be dependable, honest, and of high moral character.
Must be conscientious, responsible, and exhibit good judgment.
Must have the ability to handle confidential material with judgment and discretion.
Must be able to lead and supervise others effectively.

Must have reputable past history with no recent felony convictions and no record showing disregard for authority, rules, regulations, or laws that would affect position.
Must be willing to work overtime during peak periods and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Must be willing to work overtime and accept emergency calls after hours.
Must have initiative and leadership ability along with a strong desire to be of service to others.
Must relate well to others and be a good communicator, and have the ability to speak before formal and informal groups.
Must have a sense of civic responsibility and be willing to work with civic and other groups in their efforts to improve the communities in the service area.
