Departmental Overview The 34-acre UC Botanical Garden is one of the most diverse landscapes in the world, with over 10,000 types of plants including many rare and endangered species. Organized geographically, the Garden features 9 regions of naturalistic plantings from Italy to South Africa, along with a major collection of California native plants. The Garden was established in 1890 and its living collections are invaluable resources for international research and conservation.
Responsibilities Involves designing, developing, delivering, and administering fundraising programs. Helps identify new donor prospects through researching background information on potential donors and developing materials and organizing related programs/events; cultivates, stewards, and may solicit donor prospects. This position includes data management, timely and accurate reporting and maintaining the integrity of the constituency database.
Membership program backfill and assistance on an ad-hoc basis for priority projects and training.
Responds quickly to telephone, email and in-person inquiries regarding membership.

Develops and maintains reports, providing basic analysis of program trends, and short and long range results.
Responsible for keeping in-house database current and constituency data accurate.
Responsible for communications generated by database: acknowledgements, receipts and appeals.
Conducts research on alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations to identify prospects.
Schedules and helps coordinate events and meetings.
Tracks and reports on costs for events and meetings.
Helps coordinate on and off-campus cultivation events across departments.
Prepares for development materials for review and approval including invitations, reminders, thank-you notes and more.
Answers donor inquiries promptly and politely.
Responds to general inquiries about donating and offers useful, efficient suggestions.
Interacts professionally with all other departments on their fundraising, marketing and communication needs.
Interacts professionally with the Advisory board volunteers and other Garden volunteers; highly engaged and responsive theto their inquiries and needs.
Assists in developing materials for specific fundraising activities and/or promotional efforts as writing, speaking, telephoning, et cetera, as needed.
Assists in grant writing and reporting.
Facilitates the mock-up bricks and other promotions and recognitions.
Ownership of the tribute program: handles requests that come in; increases the visibility of the program; updates collateral around the tribute program and increases annual revenue of the program.
Lead other projects as identified by Development Director and the Development Associate. Handles special projects/assignments involving direct interaction with alumni volunteers and donors.
ADVISORY COUNCIL AND MAJOR GIFTS
Supports the Development Director in managing the Advisory Council and Major gifts programorganizing board meetings, board reports, board notes and preparing/distributing materials.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations and public relations concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.
Working knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera.
Good written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the campus and with external constituencies.
Good organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Skill to maintain confidentiality.
Prior experience with ALTRU or other customized CRM (Razors edge; CADS.)
