The Mid-Day Security Specialist manages evening building and perimeter security, the integrity and operation of security systems, environmental, and Control Room equipment and activities; trains staff and hires and trains student security guards and gallery attendants, and serves as first responder, being on-call 24 hours for emergencies, alarm activations, environmental, and other serious building problems. The schedule for this position will be Friday through Tuesday, 1:00pm -10:00pm. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Duties to include but are not limited to: -May be assigned supervisory role for control room staff, gallery attendants, and other personnel assigned to protective service duties. May be assigned the supervisory duties of Gallery Attendant Supervisor and Control Room Supervisor, and also may serve as Control Room Attendant. -Makes sure established procedures are being followed. -Covers other security posts as needed, providing crowd control and acting as first responder to any art, film, or patron related incidents, resolving visitor concerns, etc. -Supervises the protection of University property including open art displays. Maintains and reviews logs, recordings, databases and other communications records. -Ensures all records, including confidential items and electronic data, are securely handled, stored, accessed and released only in compliance with applicable law and policy. Provides related training as needed. -Controls public safety rule infractions and irregularities in public buildings such as auditoriums, museums and theaters. -Provides general security and operations support. This can include covering other security posts. -May be asked to serve on committees, works with campus offices responsible for building and/or security services, and works on special projects. -Works with campus and professional repair services and conducts minor maintenance and repairs on systems. -In conjunction with the gallery attendant supervisor, manages email communications, maintains gallery attendant database sheets and schedules, makes assignments and inspects galleries to ensure gallery attendants are carrying out duties effectively. -Assists and directs visitors. Maintains positive public relations with all persons visiting assigned areas and parking lot. Maintains prominent presence in assigned areas to deter criminal activity. -Working closely with BAMPFA staff, oversees and helps with facility events and operations including hands-on participation in set-up, cleanup, and other events needs. -Serves as one of the security special events coordinators. Resolves problems or issues that may disrupt events. -Maintains order in the facilities and at events and programs. -Ensures that vendors and guests meet security guidelines. -Coordinates with the Security and Operations Administrator in order to determine gallery attendant staffing requirements for events. -Maintains sign-up sheets in order to meet the determined staffing requirements for events. -Oversees and helps with set up of internal events and helps with logistical set-up as needed. -Controls closing of the galleries, controls entry to restricted areas and checks identity of persons seeking entry. -Uses camera system and other security equipment to actively monitor and regulate activity. -Respond to alarm activations. Inspect areas for security, fire, and accident hazards, and takes appropriate action to minimize risks. -Corrects and approves gallery attendant timesheets in the CalTime payroll system.• Experience performing all aspects of security function on campus. • Strong demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing. • Ability to work successfully as part of a team, and to take initiative and create solutions. • Ability to supervise and train assigned security staff. • Ability to follow established security protocol and write reports. • Ability to remain calm in emergencies, play an important leadership role, and cooperate with UCPD and others involved with the emergency response system. • Ability to interpret building alarm activations, and to diagnose, maintain, and repair security system problems. • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed in shifts that primarily take place late afternoon, evenings, nights, and weekends. Must be punctual and able to respond to short notice requests to work. • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds safely. • Must have appropriate, reliable transportation to work late evening hours and respond to emergency alarms. • Knowledge of both Mac and Windows platforms as well as working knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google Apps: email, calendar and drive, FileMaker Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Acrobat.
Education/Training: • Bachelors degree or equivalent. • Successful experience working in security, preferably in a museum. • First aid, AED, emergency preparedness trainings.
