Athletics Communications Graduate Assistant Pittsburg State University is accepting applications in the Department of Athletics for the position of Athletics Media Relations graduate assistant. Pittsburg State University, an NCAA Division II institution located in Pittsburg, Kan., is a member of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and maintains 12 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports.
This is a 10-month position. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will report to the Associate Athletic Director/Communications and will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of promoting Pitt State’s 12 NCAA Division II Athletic teams.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Serve as the primary contact for selected sports •Write weekly pre-game notes and post-game press releases •Game day statistics •Assist in updating athletic website •Create game programs and publications •Assist in game management duties •Assist in the management of Pitt State Athletics social media accounts •Assist in submitting nominations for athletic awards •Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required with major in journalism, communications, public relations, sports management or related field preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent computer skills are required. Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign as well as Stat Crew and Genius stats programs is required. At least one year of experience in an Athletics Media Relations/Communications office is preferred. Candidates that are familiar with/proficient with in-game Statcrew statistics input for volleyball and softball and Genius input for Basketball are preferred. Some travel and extended hours are required.
