Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a dynamic multimedia communicator to manage the school’s official social media channels. This role is critical in communicating Feinberg’s mission: to transform the field of medicine and profoundly impact human health. Our downtown Chicago campus, steps from Lake Michigan and the Magnificent Mile, is teeming with students, scientists, faculty and staff who are leaders in their fields and have fascinating stories to tell. The ideal candidate will have experience in journalism, public relations or marketing and understand how to set, implement and evaluate social media strategy using the latest tools and trends.
The Social Media Specialist is part of the team responsible for a wide variety of multimedia assignments related to Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine communication and reputation efforts. The coordinator serves as a day-to-day social media content creator and is responsible for developing high-quality and engaging science, medicine and medical education posts for our followers, maintaining University-wide best practices and standards in social media, and coordinating content calendars with other business units and affiliates. This position helps to produce and organize posts, videos, podcasts, photography and contributes to school-wide publications. This position also is responsible for gathering and analyzing data and creating and delivering timely reports to the Communications Director and Executive Director.
Maintain and manage Feinberg School of Medicine social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other channels.
Create and maintain a social media strategy, content calendar and curate content daily. Monitor posts from the community and respond as needed.
Develop dynamic multimedia content, including engaging Instagram stories and Facebook live content.
Develop multi-channel campaigns and coordinate with University and affiliate marketing teams for distribution.
Create bi-weekly analytics reports and a yearly report to be shared with management team. Gather, analyze and interpret social media data to inform future planning and production efforts, and make recommendations on how to improve practices.
Counsel departments, institutes, centers on best practices and conduct social media summits.
Stay attuned to audience preferences and changing technology.
Serve as a Feinberg ambassador on social media and a liaison with affiliate and University teams. Attend off-site summits and planning meetings.
Stay up-to-date on audience trends and social media technological developments. Share insights with larger communications team and campus community.
Assist the Office of Communications, departments/institutes/centers, and University and affiliate teams with the production of videos, podcasts, and photography including project management and logistics. Experience with shooting photography, photo editing, videography and post-production is a plus.
General Communications duties: Assist with medical school-wide communications (flyers/posters/PPT/brochures/signage), including design/layout, and milestone school-wide events. Proofread web sites, articles and newsletters. Occasionally manage newsletters as needed. Take event photographs as needed. Stay up to date on trainings for University communications tools and best practices. Participate in team meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Radio/TV, Marketing or related field with a minimum of 2 years in a communications role or the equivalent combination of education and experience where similar knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired.
One year of experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite (specifically working knowledge of Acrobat, Audition, InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro) and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
Demonstrated professional experience with, and understanding of social media channels.

Project management skills and demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
In-depth knowledge of popular and emerging social media channels, and prior experience working in social media on behalf of a brand, institution or organization.
knowledge of photography, videography, photo and video editing and graphic design.
Ability to identify, research, and solve problems independently and efficiently.
Strong oral and written communication skills, comfortable serving as the primary communications contact for students, trainees, faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Experience running social media channels with strong engagement and growth.
Professional experience in higher education or healthcare.
Social media certificate or higher education equivalent.
Client service experience (internal clients or external).
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Working knowledge of photography/video production, understanding of AP style.
Experience with audio production or podcasting.
Prior desktop publishing experience with CMS such as Wordpress or Squarespace.
Proficient in monitoring platforms.
Ability to gather, analyze and interpret data.
