Departmental Overview The College of Engineering at UC Berkeley is recognized for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranking among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States. With more than 220 regular faculty members, 1,800 graduate students and 3,200 undergraduate students located in seven academic departments, Engineering is the second largest college on the Berkeley campus.
The College Relations Department supports the College's core projects and programs through marketing, communications, and private fundraising efforts designed to reach over 60,000 alumni, friends, students, foundations, and corporate partners. During the most recent fiscal year, 2017-18, the College of Engineering raised $110.9 million in private gifts and is consistently among the top fundraising units within the university.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the Associate Director of Development position is a front-line fundraiser focused on discretionary gifts in support of the College of Engineering, primarily focused on the Berkeley Engineering Fund. The Associate Director will work on broad outreach strategies of the College (mini-campaigns, coordination with UDAR's Direct Response program) as well as soliciting, renewing, and upgrading Dean's Society gifts (annual gifts of $2,500+). In collaboration with other College fundraisers, the Associate Director will focus on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors to Berkeley Engineering, with an emphasis on building support for the Berkeley Engineering Fund and other top College priorities.
The Associate Director will focus fundraising efforts on the Berkeley Engineering Fund, including increasing awareness and membership of the Dean's Society, the College's leadership annual giving group and creating new giving opportunities to drive larger annual fund contributions. This position is a pivotal member of the Development Team.
Responsibilities 70% Leadership Annual Gifts and the Dean's Society: Under general supervision of Assistant Dean, Development designs annual giving strategies for the College of Engineering's leadership annual giving group, the Dean's Society.
In consultation with the Assistant Dean of Development, sets the strategy to grow the College's Dean's Society program as well as broaden the pool of donors to the Annual Fund across all levels.
Innovate digital outreach and marketing strategies to maximize time spent with key donors and prospects.
Develop and enhance strategies for face-to-face donor solicitation (focusing on gifts $10K+) and mini-campaigns (aimed at broad outreachsuch as Big Give, campus partnerships with Direct Response Marketing, Senior Class Gift).
Design, implement, and continue to streamline systems for gift renewals, upgrades, and identifying new donor prospects.
Develops and maintains a personal portfolio of leadership and major gift prospects and donors focusing on fundraising for the Annual Fund and other discretionary funding for key priorities.
Solicits donors for new gifts, gift renewals, and gift upgrades (via face-to-face visits, phone calls, and customized correspondence).
Coordinates leadership annual giving solicitations with all members of the Development Team.
Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met.
20% Annual Fund Mini-Campaigns: Design, Execution, Analysis, and Strategy
In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, participates in short and long-range strategic planning.
Analyzes annual giving data and trends and recommend strategies to optimize solicitation plans and initiatives as needed to improve fundraising results.
Tracks results and benchmarks program progress.
Collaborates with College Relations colleagues to implement strategies to optimize revenue and adjust cultivation, solicitation, stewardship schedules as needed to improve fundraising results.
Collaborates with the Assistant Dean in reviewing and analyzing data and benchmarking campaign progress.
Makes recommendations to Assistant Dean for program changes, enhancements or development of new programs as required.
