The California Lutheran University’s Assistant Director of the Office of Education Abroad is responsible for the operational implementation of study abroad programming as part of the university’s comprehensive internationalization initiative. The assistant director will oversee all aspects of communication/public relations, program advising, and incorporation of a social justice framework into operations.
In consultation with the Office of Education Abroad (OEA) Director, implement a comprehensive approach for Education Abroad programming that directly align study abroad programming with the university’s mission.
Collaborate with faculty and partner providers to implement curricular and co-curricular, high-impact education abroad experiences, such as affiliate programs, international internships, research projects, and service-learning/alternative break programs
Support the OEADirector with the assessment of student learning outcomes using qualitative and quantitative measures
Implement approaches to monitor and further enhance student access, student education abroad programs, and office services satisfaction
Under the direction of the OEADirector, assist with the implementation of risk/safety measures, including general and specific emergency plans, emergency procedure faculty and staff training, and direct management of complex international emergencies
Oversee the development and implementation of pre-departure and re-entry programs
Create, design, implement, and assess strategic marketing/outreach for the Office of Education Abroad
Develop, implement, and assess marketing and communication needs for the Center for Global Engagement
Identify strategies to strengthen underrepresented students’ participation in study abroad offerings
Expand the overseas offerings by developing an intentional portfolio for non-semester offerings such as internships, research projects, service/service learning, mission trips, etc.
Support OEAdirector with expansion of short-term faculty led programs
Assist OEAcoordinator with the outreach and recruitment for semester programs
Maintain ethical and transparent fiscal responsibility of any assigned financial tasks
Provide lead oversight of the OEAdata management system, assisting with report generation
Represent Cal Lutheran at relevant professional conferences or associations, and serve on university and national committees as appropriate
Collaborate on initiatives to advance internationalization, including through partnerships with the other Center for Global Engagement units: the Office of International Students & Scholars and Office of International Admission
Perform other duties as assigned or requested
Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree in a field directly relevant to international education with preference to international education, international/global studies, international relations, higher education administration/global emphasis, foreign language/culture, intercultural communication, or international business. With two (2) years of successful full-time work experience in international education programs or initiatives in a college or university setting and one (1) year of PR/Marketing/Communication responsibilities, including social media platforms of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Experience living or studying abroad.
Reading and speaking knowledge of at least one foreign language in addition to English
Commitment to and experience in expanding study abroad opportunities to under-represented students and those in STEM fields
