The Director of Development is responsible and accountable for management of a portfolio of Cancer Center and Cancer Programs' fundraising activities, including overseeing and managing the implementation of long-term and short-term fundraising strategies to advance capital, research, and programmatic fundraising priorities and goals, and to build endowments. The incumbent is expected to spearhead annual growth in major gift giving, including the oversight and management of fundraising administration, and managing a prospect portfolio of 75-150 active high end capacity donors and prospects. The incumbent will develop and manage close working relationships with leadership, faculty, staff, volunteers, donors, and is responsible for developing their leadership and fundraising skills through involvement and engagement. The Development Director develops and executes a major gifts program focusing on identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors.REQUIRED- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Minimum of 3 years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience involving managing a major gift portfolio and securing major gifts of $50,000 or more, preferably in higher education, including knowledge of proven cultivation and solicitation- Expert knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations including advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera. - Acquired knowledge of UC Davis Health System and the Davis Campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure, general knowledge and current issues facing an academic medical facility. - Expert written, oral and interpersonal communications skills, including excellent political acumen skills, to build and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies. - Must possess an interest in learning about cancer research.- Expert skills in meeting predetermined goals and objectives; including securing gifts and meeting and exceeding fundraising goals. - Expert strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and marketing skills.- Experience effectively structuring and working with advisory boards and interest groups.- Experience establishing effective relationships with organization leadership.- Experience working with and mentoring volunteers, volunteer leaders, and working with patients.- Skills of persuasion/negotiation, effective conflict resolution.- Exhibit knowledge of organizational effectiveness and health and safety and a commitment to diversity.- Knowledge of applicable computer skills: WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, and Outlook.PREFERRED- Experience working in a complex academic medical environment.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT- THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
