Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate writing assignments with the university communications liaisons research, write and edit prepared remarks for the chancellor and other leadership
Report accurately and in a timely manner breaking news
Coordinate publication timelines with writers and supervisor
Strict adherence to deadlines
Secure approval from sources
Suggest/discuss story ideas
Transcribe and edit audio/video tapes
Communicate in writing with sources, vendors, faculty, students, and administrators
Present story ideas to support overall communications strategy
Gathering and organizing assets for feature stories
Craft questions for interviews
Direct campus communication liaisons on style and content issues; enforce deadlines and style guidelines
Follow through, including necessary reminders and building in the time needed for anticipated interviews, callbacks and editing, to ensure deadlines are met
Work effectively and efficiently in Microsoft Office suite, employ Google services and project management tools and other software systems as introduced; be able to integrate into printing and production processes
Master’s degree in journalism or communications and/or experience as a writer, preferably as part of a creative or news team
Working knowledge of social media outlets and blog writing/publication strategies and techniques
