Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for Principal Gifts, the Director designs and implements comprehensive strategies to identify and cultivate the Universityâ™s highest capacity donors and prospective donors. Collaborates with academic leaders, senior University officers, and staff to advance strategic University objectives by qualifying and soliciting a portfolio of 30-50, high-capacity, $5 million + prospects.
Build engagement of these individuals with the University.
Create gift opportunities based on University priorities in line with donorâ™s interests.
Formulate and coordinate fundraising strategies and solicitations.
Determine appropriate recognition and stewardship plans for significant donors.
Plan and execute 50+ visits per year with prospects.
Proactively develop and maintain an evolving pipeline of principal gift prospects and donors.
Exhibit the credibility and sophistication to engage and collaborate effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
Garner the trust and confidence of the President, academic leaders, senior staff, faculty, Trustees, alumni, volunteers and other key constituents in advancing momentum toward the University's $5 billion campaign goal.
Incorporate the President, Trustees, high-level volunteers and academic leaders in connecting donors to the University to deepen their interest and involvement.
Develop, manage, and execute strategies in a University-wide development process to secure support for University academic and capital priorities and special University projects.
Actively build relationships through stewardship to encourage continued, increased gifts from key supporters over their lifetimes.
Manage a set of internal collaborative partnerships with Principal Gift development leaders and colleagues from across the University, including the College, Booth School of Business, Graduate Divisions, Medical and Biological Sciences Division and other University Initiatives, leveraging central resources and enhanced best practices to foster optimum results.
Convene campus partners and advise in the development of coordinated strategies aimed to maximize sustained engagement and optimum philanthropic support.
Draft written communications and proposals.
Present proposals to donors, using good judgment and sensitivity to match donor interests to University priorities, so that the probability of proposal funding is enhanced.
Write and submit timely and thorough contact reports; deliver timely and effective follow-up reports and communications to prospects and donors.
Develop and maintain cohesive stewardship strategies for donors.
As a University fundraising leader, model behavior, mentor staff and participate in strategic planning and policy decisions as appropriate.
Demonstrate high regard for teamwork and the collective achievement of departmental goals.

Education, Experience or Certifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher required.
Advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of seven years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales or similar professional work experience required.
A minimum of four years of demonstrated success in soliciting and closing major and principal gifts required.
A minimum of three years of leading a project team or managing staff required.
Experience working with volunteers required.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, including Griffin (the University's Donor Relationship Management System), Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Demonstrated record of organizing successful fundraising, marketing or membership programs required.
Knowledge of evolving trends in the field of philanthropy including context and perspective on best practices, benchmarks and performance standards required.
Demonstrated success closing major gifts and meeting or exceeding goals required.
Expertise managing a complex prospect and donor pipeline required.
Financial industry experience preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Willingness and ability to travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for University business.
Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends.
