Produce and edit business-to-business content, both print and digital, for SEMA’s communications channels. Works with association stakeholders and the editorial production staff to further the creation of the association’s weekly electronic newsletter, monthly magazine and social media video posts.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Works as an integral part of a team responsible for content creation/production for SEMApublications, gathering and presenting information for dissemination through both print and digital channels. Operates under tight deadlines with short turnaround times.
Works with all departments of SEMA as necessary, including marketing, public relations, councils and committees, membership and other affiliated organizations, to collect information relevant to the association’s mission statement.
Attends Association and industry events as assigned to research story leads, conduct interviews and gather photography. Performs assignments as required to help prior and during the annual SEMA Show. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, writing, editing, proofreading and ability to report using both still and video photography.
May assist in adding/updating content on SEMA’s websites.
May help Managing Editor with creating/updating the schematic layout or “map” for any of SEMA’s publications, keeping in mind considerations for editorial, advertising and budgeting/efficiency.
When directed by management, perform other assignments and duties as required.
Reports to Editorial Director
Interfaces with all levels of staff.
Works closely with other Association staff members to implement editorial projects that support SEMA initiatives.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Solid understanding of web-based communication strategies and online content management. Ability to work with stakeholders and programmers to update web pages in a timely manner.
Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills; ability to work in a faced-paced environment, on multiple projects with little supervision.
Demonstrated editorial experience, understanding and experience in online and print production.
Proven writer/editor/proofreader skills. Must be able to do journalistic-style writing, copy editing and conform to company style manual. BA in English or Journalism or equivalent experience preferred.
Must be able to attend events out of town and be able to provide own transportation (drive) to specific functions or interviews.
Physical ability to perform publication and photo shoot responsibilities.
Knowledge of computer systems, including basic understanding of web-based publishing programs and software (ie. Adobe Creative Suite). Solid competence in MS Office programs and Outlook.
