Essential Job Duties:
The agent in this position will plan, market, conduct, and evaluate educational programs in Family and Consumer Sciences. Program emphasis will be on nutrition, food safety, and food preservation primarily for adult audiences. Some programs may target parents and youth audiences. The agent will collaborate with other Extension agents in the region on common educational program initiatives.
The professional in this position must be energetic, able to work with diverse audiences, innovative, a good manager of time and other resources, enjoy working with individuals as well as groups, and have the ability to manage multiple tasks with little supervision.
The successful candidate is expected to be a team player working with the Extension staff and other organizations, possess a high degree of subject matter competence, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
The agent will collaborate and network with other agencies, groups, and organizations with similar missions.
Organizational, interpersonal, and marketing skills are desirable. Other skills needed include knowledge and experience in educational presentations, public relations, print media, leadership, and computer usage. The ability to evaluate programs and document contacts and impacts is essential.
A Bachelor’s degree in a family and consumer sciences related field is required; Master’s degree preferred. The Temporary County Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The Temporary County Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and county leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
Some travel within the county is required. Modern computer literacy is required.
A Bachelors degree in family and consumer science, nutrition, or related sciences is required – Master's preferred.
