Salary Range: Rank (SSP I or SSP II) and salary commensurate with qualifications, background and experience of the individual selected (see required and preferred qualifications for more information).
Counseling Services is a department within Student Affairs that provides a variety of culturally competent services to help enrolled students understand themselves, enjoy satisfying relationships, achieve academic success, and make effective life choices.
Counseling Services promotes the development of holistic student emotional health and serves the campus through advocacy and the provision of confidential, accessible services. The purpose of this position is to provide individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, and prevention education.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Possession of a Master's degree in appropriate field and licensure to practice in the State of California as LPCC, LCSW or LMFT with a minimum of two years of clinical experience post-licensure; -OR-
Possession of doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and current licensure or eligible for licensure as psychologist (i.e., has obtained all supervised professional experience).
NOTE: All counselors must be licensed in California within two years of initial appointment to qualify for reappointment/continuation in position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (SKAs) (required for both SSP-AR I and SSP-AR II ranks): 1. Demonstrated generalist clinical skills, including individual and group psychotherapy. 2. Demonstrated experience working with an emergent adult population. 3. Demonstrated experience working in a clinical setting with high volume. 4. Demonstrated experiencing providing a DSM 5 diagnosis when relevant, including with personality disorders. 5. Demonstrated experience working within a brief psychotherapy model. 6. Demonstrated experience with crisis assessment and intervention. 7. Demonstrated competence with diversity and intersectionality; demonstrated expertise in addressing the needs of underserved groups. 8. Ability to collaborate and work as member of a team, including ability to respond to unexpected campus emergencies or crises. 9. Ability to actively contribute to a positive working environment by exhibiting solution-focused, positive, cooperative and flexible behavior. 10. Ability to speak publicly; ability to represent Counseling Services (as part of Student Affairs) to the campus community. 11. Ability to independently organize, manage and prioritize tasks, including clinical caseload. 12. Good written, language and conceptual skills in English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Graduation from APA-accredited/BBS-approved graduate training program. 2. Current California psychologist, LPCC, LCSW, or LMFT license that is free of disciplinary action 3. Training and experience in college counseling center. 4. Experience working with electronic system for scheduling and casenotes. 5. Experience working with underserved students, especially students who identify as African American or Asian American/Pacific Islander.
Must be able to respond to crisis situations on campus, including after normal business hours, weekends and holidays, with [administrative] supervision as needed.
