VP, Finance and Administration - THE ALUMINUM ASSOCIATION, INC.
The Aluminum Association (TAA), based in Arlington, VA is searching for a Vice President, Finance and Administration. Established in 1933, TAA is the trade association for the North American aluminum industry and has a $7.5M budget. The Aluminum Association is the industry’s leading voice in Washington, DC providing global standards, industry statistics and expert knowledge to member companies and policy makers nationwide. Highly engaged in public policy and technical forums, the Association is committed to advancing aluminum as the sustainable metal of choice around the world.
In this highly visible role, you will translate strategy into fully developed business plans and present financial reports and projections to our Executive Committee and Board of Directors. You will also collaborate with our investment advisors and the Finance Committee in managing our retirement plan and reserve fund portfolios, representing $8M in investments. You will act as Corporate Treasurer to the the Board.
Reporting to and working closely with the President & CEO, you will be a critical member of our senior leadership team and a trusted advisor to all departments. We will look to you to optimize our current administrative procedures, help modernize finance systems and technology, streamline processes, simplify workflows, provide benchmarking and implement best practices.
You will be responsible for planning, preparing, monitoring, coordinating, reporting, and analyzing all aspects of the organization’s finance functions. You will provide guidance and support with financial reporting, budgets, forecasts, investment portfolios, contracts, payroll, benefits, and financial management. You will work with our external audit firm managing the financial statements and internal control audits. You will provide financial analyses and reports for management and adhere to all regulatory reporting requirements and deadlines. As leader for Human Resources, Information Technology, office services, and facilities management, you will be a trusted advisor to our team. Working with your Senior Staff Accountant you will oversee and provide data for the efficient operation of financial systems and programs, and sound financial internal controls. You will ensure technology infrastructure that supports TAA’s ongoing strategic objectives and oversee the operations of the Association Management System. Working closely with the Assistant Office Manager, you will ensure that the office services/administration functions consistently deliver superior customer service to our team.
Responsibilities of the VP, Finance and Administration
Lead the Finance and Accounting department, ensuring that all financial reporting and forecasting, budgeting, risk management, tax returns and financial audits are accurate and completed on time.
Work with the Senior Leadership Team, the directors, and managers to communicate, distribute, and explain financial information and develop long-term growth plans and financial projections.
Provide financial oversight to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all TAA’s operations and programs. Analyze operations and recommend opportunities to optimize revenue and reduce expense.
Working with VP, Public Affairs and an external reporting firm (Aristotle), manage the financial recording, reporting, and bank account for the Association’s Political Action Committee.
Provide oversight for the management of the AMS to ensure supporting back-office operations are effective.
Provide executive oversight of the information technology function to ensure this is managed effectively and that organization and customer needs are met in a user-friendly, cost-effective, and timely manner. Working with our outsourced IT provider, establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and ensure data security.
Responsibility for the office services, administration, and facilities function, ensuring it is managed effectively to meet organization’s needs and creating a positive customer service experience for both internal and external customers.
Provide leadership of the Human Resources functions, managing benefits and compensation management and all regulatory compliance. Oversee the payroll process and administration of the Association’s 401k plan and Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
Manage financial systems and processes to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations such as GAAP, 501(c) 6 organizations, IRS, PBGC and local and state reporting requirements.
Serve as the staff liaison to the Finance Committee, overseeing the budget process and forecasts, internal and external audits, and the investment portfolios. Working with the investment advisors and the Finance Committee ensure that the investment portfolios reflect the investment policy statements of the organization and support the short-term and long-term strategic objectives.
Present financial reports to the President & CEO, the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and the staff, providing key metrics and insights on all financial matters and making recommendations where appropriate.
Ensure that all required tax returns (990s and 990-T) and other government forms (5500s) are accurate and filed on time.
Maintain positive and effective banking relationships. Oversee all treasury functions including management and security of cash.
Working with counsel, review and oversee the organization’s contracts.
Working with the Senior Staff Accountant, oversee the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
Participate in special finance/accounting related projects as requested.
Required Qualifications –VP, Finance and Administration
10+ years of experience in the accounting/finance field with proven management and leadership experience in finance and administration.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. CPA /MBA preferred.
Knowledge of nonprofit finance environment, policies, and procedures, preferably in a materials trade association.
Demonstrated ability and commitment to perform hands-on, tactical, and strategic work in the areas of responsibility.
Knowledge of database and accounting computer systems (Microsoft Dynamics / FRX Reporting) with strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax, and bank working knowledge.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, namely Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Understanding of GAAP and accounting theories and practices.
