The Global Supply Chain Institute inthe Haslam College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee,Knoxville is seeking a Director of Marketing.
The Global Supply Chain Institute(GSCI), housed in the Haslam College of Business, is a recognized leader in thefield of Supply Chain Management (SCM) research and talent development.It operates a robust portfolio of programs insupport of its mission to be the premier global hub connecting leading supplychain companies, researchers, and students.The Institute's programs include a Supply Chain Forum with 70+ corporatemembers, a program of industry-focused whitepaper research, and numerousexecutive education offerings conducted as both public offerings and customprograms.The Executive MBA for GlobalSupply Chain, the Tri-Continent Master of Science in Supply Chain Management,and an online Master of Science in Supply Chain Management (August 2019 launch)provide graduate degree options to supplement GSCI programs. The SCM facultyhas been recognized as the most productive SCM research faculty globally(Transportation Journal 2018), the Executive MBA was recently recognized as themost relevant EMBA globally (The Economist 2018), and the Institute's programsare often ranked in the top overall SCM programs both nationally and globally.
The Director of Marketing will serveas an integral member of the GSCI leadership team.This position will have responsibility forthe GSCI strategic marketing plan development and execution. S/he will work inconjunction with Haslam's Executive Director of Marketing & PublicRelations & team for approval and continuity with the overall collegemission and brand. This position will also serve as a critical connection withthe 20+ faculty who are ranked as the top faculty globally in supply chainresearch productivity.
The Director will need to becomfortable with multifaceted objectives ranging from building better awarenessof GSCI and its programs nationally and internationally, designing andproducing multiple reports per year, supporting GSCI program activities with aprofessional image, and working with internal/external partners todesign/execute recruiting strategies for over a dozen GSCI programs. TheDirector of Marketing will hold responsibility for the brand visibility and marketingfor all GSCI programs; therefore, the ability to manage multiple competingpriorities in a complex and ambiguous environment is essential.The role will have primary responsibility forworking with an external firm to develop and execute a marketing andrecruitment strategy for the Executive MBA for Global Supply Chain and theonline MS Supply Chain Management programs. The Director will also oversee thedevelopment and execution of materials related to all other GSCI programs. Allof these individual activities should support the broader strategy of advancingGSCI's overall position.Toward thatend, a public relations strategy designed to utilize both traditional anddigital methods should also be developed to position GSCI as a go-to source ofSCM knowledge for practitioners and media.
The Director will work with theHaslam College Marketing and Public Relations department to oversee, coordinateand approve all elements of the advertising and promotional campaigns relatedto GSCI. S/he will manage and approve spending in the marketing budget as wellas program specific marketing budgets as requested.S/he will develop and implement communicationplans targeted to inquirers, applicants, alumni, and other prospects. Incoordination with the Marketing and Public Relations group, s/he will also workwith external companies and contractors to manage outsourced advertising, leadgeneration and/or prospecting initiatives The Director will also workcollaboratively with other internal departments to enhance the college'smaster's programs including Graduate Admissions, Development and AlumniRelations, Office of Diversity & Community Relations, etc.
Responsibilities: The position willreport to the Executive Director of the Global Supply Chain Institute, but willalso work closely with the Managing Director of the Supply Chain Forum, theGSCI Director of Partnerships, the GSCI Director of Executive Education, 20+SCM faculty, and others on the GSCI team.
Position responsibilities willinclude but will not be limited to the following:
·Marketing Strategy Development and Execution
oDevelop and lead an overall marketing and public relationsstrategy utilizing both traditional and digital methods to position GSCI as thepreeminent hub for SCM research and talent development. The GSCI should be seenas a "go-to" source of SCM knowledge for practitioners, academics,and media. These efforts should be complementary and supportive of overall HCBefforts.
oProvide leadershipin identifying, developing, and maintaining strong marketing and communicationrelationships with external corporate partners of GSCI to facilitate thebroader strategy of advancing GSCI's visibility and credibility
oEnsurethat GSCI programs and projects are interwoven into the overall strategy
·GSCI program level marketing
oDevelopand execute marketing and communications plans to advance program levelstrategies for the Supply Chain Forum, Executive MBA for Global Supply Chain,the two MS Supply Chain Management concentrations (traditional and online), andapproximately 10 different executive educational offerings.
oLeadthe development and execution of materials related to all GSCI programs workingin conjunction with the Haslam Marketing and Public Relations team.
·Faculty Relationship Management
oCultivatestrong, professional relationships with GSCI affiliated faculty
oDevelop faculty research, teaching, andspeaking into components of a GSCI PR strategy using social media andtraditional methods
oActively participate in GSCI leadership using insights andperspective gained through marketing activities to build and influence theInstitute's strategy and plans
oRepresent GSCI to both internal and external contacts through regularconnection with partners at GSCI forums, board meetings, courses, and programs.
