The public affairs functions at NU-Q focus on public programs and activities in support of its academic mission, which include external events, internal events, publications, advertising, and the oversight of the school’s branding. The Public Affairs Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning and organizing of events and activities along with ensuring that all are managed professionally. This also includes overseeing requests for events hosted by outside parties in NU-Q building.
In addition, this position oversees branding and publications, which includes advertising design and placement, project managing the production and distribution of all collateral material, and maintaining the school’s CRM system.
This position is based in Doha, Qatar, with a Sunday-Thursday workweek. Weekend or evening hours will be routinely required given timing of activities.
Develop the concepts around public events, signature speaker series, colloquia and programs. Administer and manage high profile events, speaker series and colloquia, including but not limited to convocation, graduation, and QMIF.
Lead the oversight for use of the NU-Q/NU brand. Review all materials that incorporate the brand before they are produced. Provide guidance/direction to the NU-Q community on proper use of the brand.
Project manage marketing materials. Manage the production and distribution of collateral material for the school – including oversight of design and printing. Create and manage annual editorial calendar for all publications, including advertisements and brochures. Coordinate the distribution of publications, invitations, reports, and oversee the online posting of digital versions.
Manage advertising function for NU-Q. Work with outside designers on creative direction of advertisements; create a media plan for all advertising and coordinate the placement for all media buys in print and online.
Hire and manage photographers, also responsible for follow-up for the distribution of photographs for publications, online, and to individuals. Work with the Video and Multimedia Content Manager in administering the MDAM system, including categorizing and organizing NU-Q’s photo library.
Maintain NU-Q’s CRM database. Update contact and distribution lists for events, emails, and other outreach activities on a continual basis. Oversee distribution to all recipients on the CRM.
Identify and manage vendors for projects in communications and public affairs, including publication and advertisement designers, media buyers, photographers, printers, event support contractors, caterers, and other vendors as needed.
Take requests for use of space in the NU-Q building. Work with NU-Q departments and leadership to determine the feasibility of hosting external events at NU-Q. Be the primary point of contact for clients requesting the use of spaces and associated resources.
Five to seven years of experience
A master’s degree in marketing, communication, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired
Presentation and project management skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop)
Solid understanding of SEO and Google Analytics

Previous experience managing public affairs programs as part of a marketing communications office, including publication design and writing, advertising, and overseeing brands.
Excellent communication skills with strong organizational and project management skills

Previous experience managing large and small events
Solid design and writing skills
Experience in higher education
Fluent English and basic knowledge of Arabic characters/language formatting
Familiarity with Qatar, the Gulf, and the Middle East.

Educational background or professional experience in fields of journalism/communications.
Experience in media relations
